Are you ready to bring your mental health nursing expertise to a role with real purpose? We’re looking for a full-time Mental Health Registered Nurse to join our team at RAAF Base Townsville on a fixed-term contract until February 2026. You’ll deliver high-quality, person-centred mental health care to Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel, working Monday to Friday (0730–1600) in a supportive, multidisciplinary environment that values empathy, collaboration, and clinical excellence.
About Townsville Health Centre
Townsville Health Centre is located at RAAF Base Townsville, just 6.5 km from the city. Supporting more than 1,000 regular personnel as well as visiting Air Force and international members, the base is home to the Black Hawk and Chinook helicopters. The health centre offers primary medical, aviation medical, dental, nursing, mental health, physiotherapy, and pharmaceutical services, operating Monday–Thursday (0700–1630) and Friday mornings.
About the Role
This is a Mental Health Registered Nurse you play a vital role behind the scenes, supporting the mental well-being of our service members. Your expertise ensures the smooth operation of mental health services, from managing administrative tasks to providing crucial support to the frontline team. With your guidance, our military personnel receive comprehensive care that addresses their unique needs.
Duties include:
- Intake assessment
- Risk assessment
- Suport case formultion and treatment planning
- Support care coordination
- Support group Psycho-education
About You
You're a dedicated nurse, deeply committed to delivering top-tier healthcare with a special focus on mental health. As the ideal applicant, you will have:
- Impeccable personal integrity and ethical conduct.
- A current unconditional and unrestricted registration as a Registered Nurse in Australia with AHPRA.
- Credentialing with the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses (ACMHN), or a minimum qualification of Graduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing, or relevant international equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years' full-time (or part-time equivalent) Post Graduate experience in mental health, encompassing comprehensive assessments and delivery of evidence based 'Focussed Psychological Strategies' as per the Medicare Schedule.
- A current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (HLTAID009) certification.
- Familiarity with relevant State/Territory policies, national standards, and the ADF Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2018-2023 (preferred).
- Recent engagement in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) activities, with a minimum of 10 hours directly related to mental health, aligned with AHPRA guidelines.
