As a Clinical Team Leader at Clarence Correctional Centre, you’ll lead the coordination and delivery of primary health services to inmates within Australia’s largest correctional facility. This role is well-suited to an experienced Registered Nurse who is committed to clinical leadership, governance, and delivering high-quality care, and who is eager to support a safe, respectful, and rehabilitative setting. The position operates on a rotating shift schedule, with typical shifts between 7:00am–5:00pm or 12:00pm–10:00pm, including weekdays and weekends as required.

About the Role
As the Clinical Team Leader, you’ll be responsible for:
- Leading and guiding a team of Registered and Enrolled Nurses
- Ensuring safe and effective delivery of primary health care and emergency services
- Providing expert clinical advice and oversight
- Managing staffing levels, performance, and compliance
- Supporting rehabilitation, safety, and respectful care across the inmate population
- Driving continuous quality improvement initiatives and evidence-based practice
You will report to the Nurse Unit Manager and play a key part in the broader health leadership structure. Your ability to build trust, uphold safety standards, and lead with integrity will be essential.
About Clarence Correctional Centre
Opened in mid-2020, this 1,700-bed state-of-the-art facility is the largest correctional centre in Australia. Located on the NSW North Coast – approx. 6 hours from Sydney and 3.5 hours from Brisbane – the area offers a relaxed coastal lifestyle, surrounded by lush rainforests, sand dunes, and welcoming communities.
The Centre services a large region from the Queensland border to Kempsey and Tamworth and is operated with a focus on:
- Rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates
- Safety and security for the community
- Providing a decent and respectful environment for staff, inmates, and visitors
Who You Are
You are a qualified Registered Nurse (AHPRA) with:
- At least four years of post-graduate experience
- Strong clinical leadership experience
- A background in acute, emergency, rural/remote, or correctional health (preferred)
- Postgraduate qualifications (or working toward them) in a relevant clinical or management field
- Excellent communication, critical thinking, and decision-making skills
