You will play a key role in helping inmates gain vital trade experience that prepares them for life post-release.
You are passionate about teaching trade skills and making a difference in people’s lives. In this full-time role, you’ll deliver and evaluate kitchen trade training to inmates, helping them reintegrate into the community and secure post-release employment. Based at Clarence Correctional Centre, you’ll join the Industries & Trades team and work in a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment.

As a Trade Instructor – Kitchen in the Industries & Trades team, you will make a positive impact by:

  • Supervising and supporting inmates in a commercial kitchen environment
  • Delivering trade knowledge and vocational training programs
  • Promoting rehabilitation through structured daily activities and programs
  • Managing kitchen equipment, tools, and safety protocols
  • Ensuring compliance with WHS and security requirements
  • Monitoring behaviour and providing input to case management processes
  • Monitoring inmate behaviour and reporting on incidents or risks
  • Implementing training programs and supporting skill development in a workshop environment
  • Managing tool and equipment usage, including pre-starts and daily audits

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Certificate III in Commercial Cookery
  • Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (or willingness to obtain within 12 months)
  • Certificate III in Correctional Practice (or willingness to obtain within 12 months)
  • At least 5 years of experience working in Kitchens
  • Sound knowledge of WHS, commercial kitchen operations, and inmate rehabilitation
  • A current driver’s licence and the ability to pass relevant security and police checks

• This position carries trust and responsibility. A comprehensive probity assessment, including a Federal Police Check, is part of the selection process for this role.

Opened in mid-2020, this 1,700-bed state-of-the-art facility is the largest correctional Centre in Australia.
