About Simpson Health Centre

Simpson Barracks is located at Yallambie (approx. 40 mins North-East of Melbourne CBD).  Predominately a Forces Command training base supporting Defence Force School of Signals (tri-service technicians & operators, electronic warfare systems), Defence Force School of Music (tri-service musicians) and Army Education Centre.  The Army base services approximately 6000 Defence members and operates a 9 bed low dependency ward 24/7.  The health centre also provides primary medical, nursing, physiotherapy, dental and mental health services.  Standard operating hours are generally 07:30 – 15:30 Monday – Friday (depending on role requirements and specific craft groups required for weekend and on-call shifts).This role is full time Monday to Friday (day shift) within a multidisciplinary healthcare team. 

What you’ll do  

• Deliver high-quality mental health care to Defence members  

• Conducting fitness-for-duty assessments and pre/post-deployment care. 

• Undertaking assessments, interventions, managing medications, formulating treatment and care plans for individuals and group education sessions  

• Work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary clinical environment where patient wellness is paramount   

What you bring  

• Unrestricted AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse 

• One of the following: 

• ACMHN credentialed 

• Graduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing 

• Mental Health trained nurse / UK trained undergraduate Mental Health Nurse 

• Minimum two years’ Post RN general registration experience within last five years in mental health within a Primary Healthcare Setting or Specialist Mental Health Setting   

• Comprehensive assessment skills and experience in ‘Focussed Psychological Strategies’ and ‘Psychological Therapy’ as per Medicare Schedule  

• Current CPR certification (HLTAID009)  

• Australian Citizenship required  to obtain Baseline Security Clearance 

• Commitment to CPD and ethical, patient-centred care
