Position Overview

Based at the Darwin Health Centre, located within RAAF Base Darwin, this role is instrumental in delivering psychological services to Defence personnel. Key responsibilities include:

• Conducting initial clinical assessments and administering psychometric evaluations
• Formulating and implementing tailored, evidence-based treatment plans
• Managing an independent caseload while collaborating with multidisciplinary colleagues on risk management and crisis intervention
• Providing and receiving support in handling crisis situations, conducting thorough risk assessments, and developing comprehensive risk management plans—all within a collaborative, multidisciplinary framework

Location Details

Darwin Health Centre is situated at RAAF Base Darwin, approximately 6.5 kilometres north-east of the city, adjacent to Darwin International Airport. The base plays a critical role in major annual Defence exercises involving up to 2,000 Australian and international personnel. The centre provides nursing, mental health, physiotherapy, and pharmaceutical services, operating Monday to Thursday 07:30–16:00 and Friday 07:30–13:30, subject to role requirements.

Candidate Requirements

• Current, unconditional, and unrestricted registration as a Psychologist
• A minimum of two years’ postgraduate experience in mental health within the past five years, including demonstrated competence in comprehensive assessments and delivery of evidence-based Focussed Psychological Strategies
• Current HLTAID009 Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification
• Familiarity with relevant state/territory policies, national standards, and the ADF Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2018–2023 is advantageous
• Australian citizenship and the capacity to obtain and maintain a Baseline Defence security clearance
