Mental Health Counsellor
Auckland South Corrections Facility (ASCF) | Full-Time

 

We are seeking a dedicated Mental Health Counsellor to join our multidisciplinary healthcare team at Auckland South Corrections Facility. This is a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic environment supporting individuals with complex mental health and psychosocial needs.

 

This is more than a clinical role – it’s an opportunity to contribute to meaningful change by supporting tāne on their journey toward rehabilitation and oranga (wellbeing).

 

About the Role

You will provide high-quality counselling services, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to support mental health, wellbeing, and positive change. The role involves managing a varied caseload and delivering structured, evidence-based interventions.

 

This is a full-time, Monday to Friday role, offering consistency and work-life balance.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver professional counselling services within a multidisciplinary team
  • Conduct assessments, develop care plans, and monitor client progress
  • Support individuals experiencing acute mental health concerns or at risk
  • Build effective therapeutic relationships
  • Apply culturally responsive and trauma-informed approaches
  • Support individuals at risk of self-harm or with complex mental health needs
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and reporting
  • Contribute to integrated care planning and team-based approaches

 

About You

You are a confident and adaptable clinician who brings strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to quality care. You understand the importance of respectful, person-centred practice and can work effectively with diverse populations.

 

You will have:

  • A recognised qualification in counselling
  • Current registration with a professional body
  • Experience in mental health and/or addictions
  • Strong assessment, communication, and case management skills
  • Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application in practice
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
