Healthcare Assistant – Auckland South Corrections Facility

As a Healthcare Assistant, you’ll be part of a committed health team providing professional, respectful, and culturally responsive care to tāngata (people in our care) at Auckland South Corrections Facility (ASCF).
This role is about more than just healthcare – it’s about whakawhanaungatanga (building relationships), respecting the mana and dignity of each person, and working together to support positive health outcomes.
What you’ll be doing:
- Supporting nurses and health professionals in delivering quality care
- Assisting with health assessments, clinics, and day-to-day care needs
- Taking basic observations such as blood pressure, pulse, and blood sugar levels
- Administering medications under supervision
- Helping with dressing, phlebotomy, and other clinical support tasks
- Ensuring the dignity, privacy, and independence of tāngata is respected at all times
What you’ll bring:
- At least 2 years’ experience in the health sector
- A Healthcare Assistant qualification
- Clear communication skills, with the ability to engage with people from diverse backgrounds
- Understanding of tikanga Māori and Pacific cultural values, and a commitment to working inclusively
- Professionalism, empathy, and a drive to support rehabilitation and wellbeing
