Auckland South Corrections Facility

A Psychology Role That Makes a Difference

Looking for something different from traditional clinical practice?

Join Serco’s Health Services team at Auckland South Corrections Facility (ASCF) as a Psychologist and use your skills in a role where you can make a genuine difference.

You’ll work with people with complex mental health and psychological needs, providing assessment, treatment and support while helping them work towards positive change and rehabilitation.

This is a unique opportunity to take your psychology career in a different direction.

What’s on offer?

  • Meaningful clinical work in a unique environment
  • A varied caseload with diverse and complex presentations
  • Work alongside a multidisciplinary Health Services team
  • Opportunities to use and develop your clinical skills
  • A role focused on rehabilitation, wellbeing and positive outcomes
  • The opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of the people you work with

What will you be doing?

As a Psychologist, you’ll provide psychological assessment and treatment while working closely with the wider Health Services and correctional teams.

Your day-to-day work will include:

  • Managing a caseload and completing psychological assessments
  • Conducting risk assessments and developing clinical formulations
  • Providing evidence-based psychological interventions
  • Using structured CBT approaches to support positive behavioural change
  • Providing individual and group-based interventions
  • Supporting people with a range of psychological and mental health presentations
  • Participating in suicide and self-harm risk assessments
  • Developing treatment plans and monitoring progress
  • Providing mental health education and making appropriate referrals
  • Completing high-quality clinical documentation and reports
  • Working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team
  • Contributing to quality improvement and positive patient outcomes

What will you bring?

We’re looking for a qualified Psychologist who is passionate about making a difference and confident working with adults experiencing a range of psychological needs.

You’ll have:

  • A degree qualification in Psychology – Forensic, Clinical or Counselling
  • Eligibility for registration with the New Zealand Psychologists Board
  • Experience in psychological assessment and treatment
  • Strong knowledge and practical application of CBT
  • Experience working with a broad range of psychological presentations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • A genuine commitment to rehabilitation and positive behavioural change
  • An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its relevance to mental health practice
  • An ability to work respectfully within a culturally diverse environment, including an understanding of tikanga Māori

Experience in corrections, forensic, welfare or another institutional setting would be highly regarded, but we’re interested in hearing from Psychologists with strong transferable clinical experience too.

Why Serco?

At ASCF, no two days are the same.

You’ll be part of a dedicated Health Services team working across a unique healthcare environment, with the opportunity to build relationships, work with complex presentations and see the impact of your work over time.

If you’re ready to step outside the traditional psychology setting and take on a role where your clinical skills can genuinely contribute to rehabilitation and better outcomes, we’d love to hear from you.
