You’ll play a critical role in ensuring the secure, reliable, and efficient operation of IT and operational technology systems that support the daily functions of Auckland South Corrections Facility.
As a Senior Systems Engineer in the Technology team, you’ll make a positive impact by:
- Maintaining secure and resilient infrastructure, including servers, networks, and storage
- Supporting critical prison technologies such as inmate management and communications systems
- Leading incident response and acting as the escalation point for complex technical issues
- Driving technology projects, upgrades, and change management with minimal disruption
- Implementing and monitoring cybersecurity measures to protect sensitive systems
- Collaborating with internal teams, custodial staff, vendors, and government partners
- Mentoring junior engineers and sharing technical expertise

To be successful in this role you’ll have:
- A degree in Computer Science or equivalent
- Professional certifications (MCSE, AWS/Azure, VMware, Cisco, or Citrix)
- At least 10 years of relevant experience in system engineering and solution delivery
- Strong server, network, and virtualisation expertise (Windows/Linux, VMware, SAN/NAS)
- Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks (ISO 27001, NIST) and experience supporting audits
- Skills in automation and scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Ansible)
- Excellent communication, planning, and problem-solving abilities
