Make an impact at Serco
As part of our Defence Marine Support Services team, you’ll play a key role supporting safe and efficient vessel operations across inshore environments. You’ll contribute your marine engineering and seamanship expertise to maintain vessels, deliver operational services, and support mission readiness. Working closely with experienced crew and leaders, you’ll help ensure compliance, safety, and operational excellence. Your work will directly support Defence activities that make a real difference.
As a Marine Engine Driver 1 NC in the Serco Defence DMSS team, you’ll make a positive impact by:
- Operating vessels as Engineer or General-Purpose Hand
- Managing fuel transfers and monitoring tanker operations
- Supporting vessel maintenance and engineering tasks
- Coordinating shipboard drills and safety exercises
- Completing maintenance plans and system work orders
- Engaging professionally with customers and stakeholders

- The highest levels of personal integrity and ethical behaviour
- Certificate of Competency as issued by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) as a Marine Engine Driver 1 Near Coastal (NC)
- Current First Aid Certificate
- Demonstrating experience in maritime or vessel operations
- Applying safety, environmental, and quality standards
- Knowledge of Royal Australian Navy (RAN) operating practices and procedures
- Current Driver’s Licence (National Code Class C)
- Using basic MS Office and asset management systems
- Familiarity with vessel monitoring and stability systems
- Ability to obtain and maintain a minimum of Defence Security Clearance Baseline
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC) where required by the business.
- Working confidently both independently and within a team
