As part of our Defence Marine Support Services (DMSS) team, you'll play a vital role in supporting the safe operation, maintenance, and readiness of a diverse fleet of vessels. Working closely with marine professionals and Defence stakeholders, you'll contribute to essential inshore operations that support Australia's Defence capability. This is a hands-on role that combines vessel operations, marine engineering, safety, and leadership responsibilities. Every day offers the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution while working in a collaborative and supportive environment.

 

As a Master <24 / MED II Near Coastal in the Serco Defence DMSS team, you’ll make a positive impact by:

 

  • Managing vessel operations including berthing, unberthing, anchoring and cargo activities
  • Delivering marine engineering and maintenance activities to ensure vessel reliability
  • Leading and participating in shipboard drills, exercises and safety initiatives
  • Supporting the training and induction of crew members in inshore vessel operations
  • Maintaining vessel records, work orders, checklists and operational documentation
  • Collaborating with Defence customers and stakeholders to deliver professional marine services

You could be a great fit if you have:

  • A current AMSA Master <24m Near Coastal Certificate of Competency and Marine Engine Driver Grade II Near Coastal Certificate of Competency
  • Experience working within maritime operations, vessel maintenance or marine engineering environments
  • Strong knowledge of safe work practices, environmental requirements and operational compliance
  • The ability to build positive relationships and work collaboratively within a team
  • Confidence managing multiple priorities while maintaining high safety standards
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Defence Baseline Security Clearance and MSIC where required
