Team Leader – Mental Health & AOD

Acacia Prison | Wooroloo, WA | Onsite

Make a difference where it matters

Looking for a leadership role where you can use your clinical experience to support others and make a real difference?

At Acacia Prison, you'll lead our Mental Health and Alcohol & Other Drugs (AOD) team, overseeing the delivery of mental health and AOD services to individuals in our care.

This is an opportunity to take the next step in your career, combining your clinical knowledge with your leadership skills. You'll play an important role in supporting your team, providing clinical guidance and ensuring individuals receive the care and support they need.

Working in a correctional environment is different from a traditional healthcare setting. It's a role where strong clinical judgement, teamwork and the ability to build relationships are important.

This is a permanent, full-time position.

What we offer

We want our people to feel supported and have opportunities to develop throughout their careers. Some of the benefits of joining Acacia include:

  • Competitive salary and benefits package
  • Opportunities for professional development and career progression
  • Supportive team environment
  • Employee assistance and wellbeing programs
  • Access to health and wellness initiatives

What you'll be doing

As the Team Leader – Mental Health & AOD, you'll be responsible for the day-to-day leadership and coordination of the Mental Health and AOD team.

You'll provide guidance and support to your team, oversee clinical service delivery and work closely with other healthcare professionals and custodial staff to ensure individuals receive appropriate and timely care.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading, supporting and developing the Mental Health and AOD team, creating a positive and supportive working environment.
  • Providing clinical guidance, advice and support to nurses and other team members.
  • Overseeing day-to-day operations, ensuring services are delivered effectively and clinical priorities are managed.
  • Supporting staff performance, professional development, supervision and ongoing training.
  • Overseeing mental health and AOD assessments, care planning and clinical interventions.
  • Managing complex clinical matters and supporting your team with clinical decision-making.
  • Monitoring clinical standards, documentation and compliance with relevant policies and procedures.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve services, clinical practices and patient outcomes.
  • Building strong working relationships with the broader healthcare team, external providers and custodial staff.

What you'll bring

You're an experienced mental health or AOD nursing professional who enjoys leading a team and helping others do their best work.

You're approachable, confident in your clinical decision-making and able to balance the needs of your team with the day-to-day demands of a busy healthcare environment.

You understand the importance of providing quality care, supporting your staff and creating an environment where people feel comfortable asking questions, sharing ideas and developing their skills.

To be successful in this role, you'll have:

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA.
  • A minimum of five years' post-graduate experience in mental health nursing.
  • Previous experience in a clinical leadership or senior nursing position, with the ability to lead and support a team.
  • Experience in mental health and/or Alcohol & Other Drugs services.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a range of healthcare professionals.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and make sound clinical decisions.
  • A good understanding of clinical governance, professional standards and patient safety.

Experience working within a correctional or custodial health environment will be highly regarded, but isn't essential.

You don't need to tick every box to apply. If you have the clinical experience and leadership skills we're looking for, we'd love to hear from you.
