Make an impact at Serco
You’ll support inmates at Acacia Prison by delivering hands-on metal fabrication training that prepares them for real-world employment after release.
You’ll work in the Prison Industries team and play a key role in rehabilitation through skill development, work readiness, and purposeful activity.
You’ll lead inmates in safe, productive workshop environments and help maintain strong safety, security, and learning outcomes.
This is a permanent, full-time role based at Acacia Prison.
As a Vocational Trainer in the Industries team, you’ll make a positive impact by:
- Delivering accredited training programs in metal fabrication and supporting inmate learning
- Supervising day-to-day workshop operations to ensure safety, productivity, and compliance
- Encouraging inmate participation in rehabilitation programs and promoting skill development
- Monitoring and maintaining equipment, tools, and WHS standards in line with procedures
- Supporting sentence management through observation, reporting, and inmate feedback
- Managing inventory, audits, and reporting for industry-related activity

To be successful in this role you’ll have:
- Minimum 5 years' experience in metal fabrication
- Certificate IV in Engineering – Fabrication
- Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (or willingness to obtain in the first 12 months)
- Certificate III in Correctional Practice (or willingness to obtain in the first 12 months)
- Valid driver’s licence and forklift licence
- Strong understanding of safety procedures and training delivery in trade environments
