Schedule: Permanent, Full-time, Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm. Apprenticeship position including attendance at college and completion of apprenticeship coursework.

As an Apprentice Electrician in our Health team at Darent Valley Hospital, you’ll support the maintenance, inspection, testing and repair of electrical systems across a busy healthcare environment while working towards recognised electrical qualifications. You’ll develop valuable skills alongside experienced professionals, helping to ensure critical hospital services remain safe, compliant and reliable.

What you’ll do as an Apprentice Electrician

  • Assist qualified electricians with planned preventative maintenance on electrical systems and equipment.
  • Support inspections, testing, fault finding and repairs in line with BS 7671 Wiring Regulations and healthcare requirements.
  • Help maintain and develop knowledge of critical hospital systems including low-voltage distribution, emergency lighting, standby generators and uninterruptible power supplies.
  • Follow safe systems of work, permits-to-work, isolation procedures and all relevant health and safety requirements.
  • Assist with maintenance documentation, job records and electronic maintenance management systems.
  • Attend college, complete apprenticeship coursework and actively develop your technical knowledge and skills.

 
Does this sound like you?

  • Maths and English GCSE grades between 9 and 4 (A* to C), or an equivalent Level 2 Functional Skills qualification
  • A genuine interest in electrical engineering and a commitment to completing an electrical apprenticeship.
  • An understanding of basic electrical principles and health and safety awareness.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Reliable, professional and willing to learn, with a positive attitude towards personal growth and development.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to safe working practices and excellent customer service.

Vetting and checks:

A Standard DBS check will be carried out for this position. This includes spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands, and warnings as permitted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. An Occupational Health Questionnaire will also be completed so we can ensure you have the necessary support to perform your duties.
