Water Hygiene Specialist  

Darent Valley Hospital 

Full time, 37.5 hours per week  

Salary competitive plus basic plus Serco benefits. 

 

Main Purpose: 

 

A Water Hygiene Technician job spec involves inspecting, monitoring, and maintaining water systems to prevent issues like Legionella and ensure compliance with safety standards. Key duties include conducting temperature checks, servicing thermostatic mixing valves (TMVs), flushing outlets, and performing tank cleans/disinfections. Technicians often use CAFM for workload management and record-keeping, with a focus on identifying and solving problems, maintaining client relationships, and adhering to guidelines such as HSE's ACoP L8 and HSG274. 

 Main Accountabilities: 

 

  • Inspections and Monitoring: Regularly inspecting water systems, monitoring temperatures, and checking flow rates in both hot and cold systems. 

  • Maintenance: Servicing Thermostatic Mixing Valves (TMVs), descaling showerheads and hoses, and performing cleaning and disinfection of water storage tanks. 

  • Water Sampling: Collecting water samples for testing, particularly in closed systems. 

  • Chlorination: Performing disinfection works, including the chlorination of water systems, according to guidelines. 

  • Reporting: Accurately documenting and analysing daily data, maintaining records, and providing service reports. 

  • Client Interaction: Working with clients to ensure their systems meet compliance standards and maintaining good relationships. 

 

 
 

What you will need for the role: 

  • Technical Skills: Experience with plumbing, servicing, and the use of hand and power tools. 

  • Problem-Solving: Ability to identify potential issues and proactively find solutions. 

  • Communication: Good communication skills for client and colleague interaction. 

  • Compliance Knowledge: Understanding of HSE ACoP L8 and HSG274 guidelines for Legionella prevention. 

  • IT Proficiency: Experience using systems like CAFM or PDA for managing tasks and data. 

 

Work Environment & Requirements: 

 

  • Field-Based: Working within  healthcare facilities around the general public. 

  • Teamwork: Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
