As a Professional Mentor in our Employment, Skills and Enterprise team, you’ll provide one-to-one coaching and mentoring to graduates participating in the Restart Scheme Blue programme, helping them secure sustainable employment that matches their qualifications, skills and career aspirations. You’ll play an important role in supporting people to navigate career pathways, build confidence and achieve long-term success.

Your work has purpose. By helping talented individuals overcome barriers to employment and secure meaningful careers, you’ll create a positive impact on communities and contribute to a better future. Through guidance, encouragement and practical support, you’ll help participants realise their potential while supporting growth and opportunity for individuals and society.

 

What you’ll do as a Professional Mentor

 

  • Deliver tailored one-to-one mentoring and coaching sessions to support participants in achieving their career goals.
  • Help participants strengthen their CVs, cover letters, interview techniques, LinkedIn profiles and personal branding.
  • Provide insight into professional and white-collar job markets, including employer expectations and recruitment processes.
  • Support participants with career research, job applications and identifying transferable skills.
  • Work closely with Job Coaches, Graduate Liaison Officers and other colleagues to provide holistic support.
  • Maintain accurate participant records, monitor progress and contribute towards achieving performance targets.

 

Does this sound like you?

 

  • Experience in professional mentoring, coaching, career counselling or a similar role.
  • Strong understanding of professional and white-collar employment markets.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport.
  • Able to work independently while collaborating effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Committed to inclusion, diversity and supporting people from a wide range of backgrounds.
  • Degree educated, with Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) certification desirable.

Vetting and checks:

 

A Standard DBS check will be carried out for this position. This includes spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands, and warnings as permitted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. An Occupational Health Questionnaire will also be completed so we can ensure you have the necessary support to perform your duties.
