Engineering Services Shift Technician (Electrician)

Serco are seeking a skilled and dedicated Approved Electrician/Electrician to join our Estates and Facilities team at Forth Valley Royal Hospital. You will play a vital role in maintaining and ensuring the reliability, safety, and efficiency of the hospital’s electrical systems and services.
Working as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team, you will carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), fault diagnosis, repair, installation, and testing of a wide range of electrical systems in a healthcare environment, ensuring full compliance with Healthcare SHTM (Scottish Health Technical Memoranda) standards and guidance.
Participation in a 6-week shift rota will be required to ensure round-the-clock cover for the hospital’s essential services.
Main Accountabilities:
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities during assigned shifts
- Perform Preventative Planned Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on electrical systems, equipment, and infrastructure.
- Carry out fault finding, repair, and rectification in a timely and safe manner.
- Undertake electrical installations, inspection, and testing in accordance with IEE Wiring Regulations (18th Edition) and Healthcare SHTM compliance requirements.
- Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental, and SHTM regulations, as well as Serco and NHS Estates standards.
- Work within and operate Permit to Work systems and safe systems of work.
- Support the Estates team in maintaining critical hospital services and minimising disruption to patient care.
- Participate in the shift rota and on-call duties to provide 24/7 support to hospital operations.
(If applicable) Undertake Authorised Person (AP) duties for Low Voltage (LV) and High Voltage (HV) systems — training will be provided if required.
What you will need to do the role:
- Qualified Electrician – City & Guilds 2330, NVQ Level 3, or equivalent.
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS7671).
- City & Guilds 2391 (Inspection & Testing) or equivalent.
- Proven experience in electrical maintenance, installations, and fault diagnosis.
- Knowledge and understanding of Healthcare SHTM compliance and requirements within a hospital or clinical setting.
- Understanding of Permit to Work and Safe Systems of Work procedures.
- Strong communication and organisational skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Must have the right to work in the UK.
- Hold or willing to undertake a PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) check
Desirable:
- Previous experience working in a healthcare or hospital environment.
- Experience performing Authorised Person (AP) duties for LV/HV systems.
- Familiarity with NHS Estates guidelines and SHTM/HTM standards.
