What you’ll do as a Porter
You’ll be entrusted to:
- Escort patients and visitors safely and comfortably around the hospital, using wheelchairs, beds or trolleys.

- Carry out daily equipment checks to ensure safe and effective operation.
- Assist with waste duties following strict segregation procedures, including clinical waste, recycling and general waste.
Does this sound like you?
You’ll be a great fit for this role if you have:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with a focus on patient care.
- The ability to work calmly under pressure in a busy environment.
- Good general awareness and sound judgement when responding to changing demands.
- A respectful, empathetic approach when working with patients, relatives and colleagues.
- A willingness to undertake required training across areas such as moving and handling, infection control and equipment use.
Vetting and checks:
This role requires membership of the PVG Scheme, which involves a detailed check of spent and unspent convictions and other relevant information to ensure safeguarding compliance. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire so we can provide any necessary support to help you carry out your responsibilities.
