Salary: £44,500 per annum, Shift allowance inclusive, plus excellent benefits
Schedule: Full time, permanent – 37.5 hours per week. 8-week rolling shift pattern including days and nights (07:00 – 19:00 and 19:00 – 07:00)

As an Electrician in our healthcare facilities team at James Cook University Hospital, you’ll help keep a critical NHS environment safe, compliant, and fully operational. Your work will support patients, clinicians, and visitors every day, making a real difference where it matters most.
This is a hands-on role where your skills directly impact the delivery of vital healthcare services. From planned maintenance to reactive repairs, your contribution helps ensure the hospital can operate 24/7, supporting life-saving care and creating a positive impact on the local community.
What you’ll do as an Electrician
You’ll be entrusted to:
- Carry out reactive repairs, fault finding, commissioning, and maintenance across a wide range of electrical services, plant, and equipment
- Deliver planned preventive maintenance to ensure systems remain safe, compliant, and fully operational
- Diagnose faults in complex electrical systems within a live hospital environment
- Work across multiple hospital areas, responding effectively to changing priorities
- Maintain accurate records and ensure all work meets statutory and safety requirements
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and hospital staff to minimise disruption and deliver excellent service
Does this sound like you?
You’ll be a great fit for this role if you have:
- A completed recognised electrical apprenticeship or equivalent structured training programme
- Level 3 NVQ or Level 3 National or Diploma Certificate in Electrical Installation or Engineering
- 18th Edition BS7671
- Proven experience working in a similar environment, ideally within building services or healthcare
- Strong communication and customer-focused skills, with a calm and professional approach
Vetting and checks:
A Standard DBS check will be carried out for this position. This includes spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands, and warnings as permitted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. An Occupational Health Questionnaire will also be completed so we can ensure you have the necessary support to perform your duties.
