08:00AM – 16:00PM, Monday to Friday

Salary Range dependant on age is: £19,030 - £24,030

 

Here at Serco, we are looking for a Mechanical Apprentice to join our team at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital puts its patients at the heart of everything they do. The Hospital cares for the people of Norfolk, north Suffolk and further afield, providing almost one million out-patient appointments, day case procedures and in-patient admissions every year. The hospital has 1,200 beds and state of the art facilities and works closely with the University of East Anglia to train health professionals and have a strong focus on research. We are offering a unique opportunity to work in a diverse engineering environment providing a wide scope for development of skills and knowledge.

 

Reporting into the Engineering Supervisors you will be part of the engineering team providing mechanical maintenance across the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital site as part of Serco’s Hard FM estates service to the NHS.

 

The post holder will train and develop to ensure that the hospitals’ building, fabric, plant, electrical and mechanical services and equipment are maintained to a high standard and ensure their continued safety, efficiency and reliability. The apprentice will undertake day release at college to acquire an NVQ 3 equivalent as well as being mentored by our Assistants, Craftsperson’s and Technicians to develop to a high standard.  You will undertake a variety of tasks in a reactive and preventative maintenance capacity as necessary and dependant on experience. This will typically include:

 

  • Fire alarm testing.
  • Lamp replacement and light cleaning.
  • Emergency light testing.
  • Replacement of nurse call leads and emergency pull chords.
  • Fire sprinkler testing.
  • Medical Gas routine testing.
  • Assist with lift entrapment.
  • Boiler safety checks to include chemical dosage checks.
  • Ventilation grille cleaning.
  • Water safety to include temperature monitoring, water sampling, TMV servicing etc.
  • Repair leaking taps.
  • Meter readings.
  • Fire extinguisher checks.
  • Replacement of fixtures and fittings.
  • Involvement in planned Operating Theatre maintenance work.

 

Developing on to:

  • Medium Temperature Hot Water systems
  • Steam systems, pipelines and associated equipment and safety devices.
  • Hot and cold-water systems including cold water service tanks, calorifiers, thermostatic mixing valves etc.
  • Hydrotherapy pool
  • Medical gas systems
  • Decontamination equipment
  • Ventilation/air handling systems
  • Pump overhauls.
  • Equipment repairs
  • Systems balancing and testing etc.
  • An awareness of electrical and building management/control systems.
  • Weekly testing of Decontamination washers and sterilisers.

 

What you’ll need to do the role

 

To be considered for this role you will need to be ambitious able to demonstrate a passion for mechanical Engineering. You will need to demonstrate a professional approach, strong awareness to health & safety, good communication and customer service skills and be able to work well in high pressure situations. Have a polite, courteous attitude and a willingness to develop.
