Working pattern: Mon-Fri 06.00am-14.00pm with 30 minutes unpaid lunch break.
Full time – 37.5 hours
Location: Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital
Salary: £37,177 - £44,397 dependent on experience 

 

Serco is looking for a Refrigeration Technician to join to provide safe and efficient maintenance of the refrigeration services and equipment within the hospital as directed by Estates Supervisors and Management.

 

Key Accountabilities 

 

  • To ensure that the Hospital Building, Fabric, Plant, Services and Equipment are maintained to a high standard to ensure continued efficiency, safety and reliability and to safeguard the future long-term serviceability of the Estate as contractually required by Serco, Octagon and the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital NHS Trust
  • To always ensure safety. To assess all aspects of tasks and take appropriate actions.
  • To know when to request advice or assistance. To understand own limitations.
  • To be able to communicate effectively with Peers, Supervisors and Managers within Serco. To be able to communicate politely with Trust Staff, i.e. inform relevant people of work to be carried out and informing of work status and potential unavailability of equipment or service.
  • To understand the contractual relationship between Serco, Octagon and the Trust.
  • To carry out reactive repairs, fault finding, servicing commissioning and maintenance to a wide range of Refrigeration Plant and Equipment within all areas of the Hospital as directed by Supervisors or Managers.
  • To include, but not limited to chillers, air conditioning units, fridges, freezers, catering and kitchen display equipment etc.  
  • To carry out Planned Preventive Maintenance to a wide range of Refrigeration Plant and Equipment.
  • Have an understanding of associated controls and how the Building Management System interfaces and controls all equipment and wider plant & infrastructure.
  • Assist with managing the FGAS register and overall FGAS management, ensuring all associated paperwork and records are accurate and up to date (including any completed by other frontline staff).
    Oversee stock control of appropriate spares to include a critical spares inventory, to include refrigerant and management of within designated refrigerant store.
    Take ownership of temporary equipment, ensuring assets are tracked and remain in serviceable condition ready for use.
  • Assist in supporting Minor Works and Project work relating to new installations and specifications.
  • Support in maintaining compliance of all Tasks and that our contractual service levels are achieved.
  • Support in the management of external contractors as required.
  • To work in accordance with all relevant Serco Policies & Procedures, Workplace Regulations and Best Practice Guidelines.
  • To take a proactive approach to the development and review of Health & Safety systems, work instructions and working practices.
  • To always work in a safe and responsible manner with full regard for own and other’s safety.
  • To attend work in compliance with the Computerised Time & Attendance System.
  • To actively participate in the Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) System, including accurate and punctual completion of Work Order Documentation in line with operational procedures – both through use of Tablet and via direct interface to the CAFM System.
  • To use personal communication equipment as requested.
  • To be prepared to attend work or work beyond expected finishing time in exceptional circumstances, as requested by Supervisors or Managers i.e. critical equipment failure, equipment failure affecting patient services and support project and minor works out of hours.
  • Communicate to Supervisors or Managers unrepaired faults or defects or requirements for Spare Parts.
  • To cover Supervisory duties in absence of Supervisor as requested.
  • To attend on-site and off-site training as required.
  • To work in other areas to support the wider maintenance out-side of core role duties where required and requested.
  • To be aware of how the Refrigeration Technician Role influences Serco’s Norfolk & Norwich Contract and the wider company objectives.
  • To take a proactive approach to the development of other suitably qualified engineers. 

 

Additional/special features of the role:

 

Physical Demands:

  • Moving Large or Heavy Objects (Using correct Manual Handling techniques and appropriate lifting equipment).
  • Possibly walking long distances to various locations of the Hospital repeatedly during the working day.
  • Pushing Trolleys.
  • Working whilst using PPE.

 

Mental Demands:

 

  • Sound Refrigeration aptitude.
  • Ability to concentrate on tasks.
  • Ability to think clearly under pressure.
  • Work may entail close proximity to Hospital Patients.

 

Working Conditions:

 

  • Possibly working with unclean and potentially infectious materials, (Appropriate precautions to be taken).
  • Extremes of temperatures, i.e. Hot Boiler Rooms or working outside in Winter months.
  • Occasionally working in noisy environment.
  • Work could occasionally involve working at height, (in accordance with policy and Permit to Work System)

 

What you will need to do the role:

 

  • Completion of a recognised appropriate Refrigeration Apprenticeship or other relevant structured Training Program
  • Appropriate City & Guilds and or BTEC certification
  • Proven experience of working in a similar environment
  • Knowledge and understanding of Refrigeration Services
  • Good communication and customer service skills
