Location: Sudbury, Surrey, CO10 2XH
Salary: £34,608.08 per annum, plus excellent benefits
Schedule: Full time – 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday – either 6.30am – 3pm or 8.30am – 5pm (whichever is operationally required). You will also be required to work each Saturday following a UK bank holiday.

What you’ll do as a Chargehand
You’ll play a key role in supervising colleagues and ensuring our daily operations run to a high standard. Working closely with managers, supervisors, and employees, you’ll help maintain safe practices, support innovation, and ensure we deliver a reliable, customer‑focused service.
- Build strong working relationships with managers, supervisors, and colleagues, providing day‑to‑day supervision, on‑the‑job training, and mentoring.
- Stay flexible and conversant with a range of activities and equipment, supporting improvements in working practices to enhance service delivery.
- Ensure work is completed in line with schedules, routes, and procedures, adjusting routines as needed to respond to road closures, traffic issues, weather changes, or peaks in workload.
- Maintain high standards of work, ensuring your team meets professional and contractual requirements, and reporting capability concerns or issues with workmanship.
- Act as the key point of contact between the team, office, and management, maintaining communication through radio links or mobile phones.
- Liaise with client officers, carry out joint or independent inspections, and keep accurate records for performance monitoring and reporting.
- Support residents, customers, and road users with courtesy and professionalism, helping colleagues resolve complaints sensitively and escalating issues where needed.
- Report and record incidents affecting service delivery, including health and safety concerns, vehicle accidents, or community safety issues.
- Uphold expected conduct at all times, reporting any inappropriate behaviour or solicitation of gratuities.
- Operate vehicles and equipment safely, following all health and safety instructions and manufacturers’ guidelines.
- Complete daily vehicle checks, report defects, and manage all documentation relating to vehicle use and statutory requirements.
- Deliver waste to designated tipping sites safely and in line with statutory and local requirements, reporting any environmental concerns.
- Weigh and record waste, ensuring tickets and documentation are returned appropriately.
- Monitor team attendance, check PPE usage, and maintain accurate timesheets and attendance records.
- Complete all required paperwork, including timesheets, holiday requests, sickness reports, work records, and incident or accident reports.

You’ll need:
- HGV Class 2 minimum
- In date CPC Card
- Drivers Digi Card
- Waste Collection Experience a must
- Strong supervision skills
- A positive approach to customer care
