Schedule: 37 hours per week (Monday- Thursday 8am-4pm, Friday 8-3:30pm)

As a Porter in our Defence team, you’ll play an important role in supporting the day‑to‑day operation of the Defence Academy. You’ll help ensure equipment, furniture and materials are moved safely and efficiently across the campus, contributing to the smooth running of learning and operational activity.

Your work will help create impactful solutions by supporting teaching venues, events and facilities, ensuring colleagues and customers have what they need, when they need it. Every task you complete helps maintain a safe, organised and effective environment that supports Defence capability.

 

What you’ll do as a Porter


You’ll be entrusted to:

 

  • Carry out general portering duties as required across the Defence Academy site.
  • Move, set up and return equipment used within instructional and teaching venues.
  • Transport stores, furniture and equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Support the reconfiguration of teaching facilities and movement of furniture for churn activities.
  • Clear waste materials in line with site and Health and Safety requirements.
  • Assist reprographics colleagues with delivery of course materials when needed.
  • Receive, check, record and deliver goods accurately.
  • Support the movement, erection and striking of tentage and camp stores as required.
  • Undertake additional tasks, within your competence, as directed to support Defence Academy operations.

You’ll be a great fit for this role if you have:

 

  • The ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently.
  • A flexible and positive approach to work.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience managing physical workloads and resources to achieve results.
  • Able to carry out manual handling and lifting of equipment- tables, cabinets and chairs etc.
  • Confidence using basic hand tools for packing and unpacking items.
  • A strong commitment to following Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • A full, valid UK driving licence. A Forklift licence desirable.

 

Vetting and checks:

This role requires formal Security Clearance which includes more detailed background checks on employment, criminal record, and financial history to ensure suitability for working in secure environments. Please note that UK residency requirements may apply for certain levels of clearance. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire so we can identify and provide any support you may need to undertake the role effectively.
