Every day, your work will support a facility that thousands of people rely on. You’ll help create safe spaces, maintain vital systems, and contribute to a service that impacts the wellbeing of the wider community.

What you’ll do as a Maintenance Assistant

You’ll be entrusted to:

  • Undertake planned and reactive maintenance on engineering plant and equipment following training programmes, procedures, and operational manuals.
  • Carry out tasks such as ductwork cleaning, filter changes, lamp and tube replacements, equipment cleaning, and plant room housekeeping.
  • Participate in engineering planned preventative maintenance schemes and support the operation of labour control systems such as CAFM.
  • Assist technicians and craftsmen with diagnostic fault‑finding, repairs, and maintenance activities, escalating issues to the Maintenance Officer when required.
  • Complete all necessary documentation, including service sheets, work orders, logbooks, and test certificates.
  • Work safely in accordance with Health Technical Memorandums (HTMs), SHTMs and all relevant legislation, using tools and equipment in line with safety guidelines.
  • Support tasks such as PAT testing, water testing for the hydrotherapy pool, and other duties appropriate to the grade.

Does this sound like you?

You’ll be a great fit for this role if you have:

  • Minimum of three years’ experience in a similar role within a large, complex service organisation.
  • Knowledge of safe equipment use and experience within an engineering environment.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build trusted working relationships, ideally with experience in a healthcare setting.
  • The initiative to solve day‑to‑day issues independently, while also working well as part of a team.
  • A commitment to developing your skills and supporting the development of others, including Apprentices and Trainees.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy in documentation, and IT literacy.
  • The ability to work to tight deadlines in a demanding environment and attend training as required.

Vetting and checks:

This role requires membership of the PVG Scheme, which involves a detailed check of spent and unspent convictions and other relevant information to ensure safeguarding compliance.
