As a Maintenance Assistant in our Estates and Facilities team, you’ll support the delivery of safe, effective, and responsive maintenance services across the hospital estate. Your work will help ensure buildings, equipment, and facilities are maintained to a standard that supports patient care and safety.

You’ll play a vital role in keeping essential hospital services running smoothly. Working across both clinical and non-clinical areas, you’ll contribute to an environment where care, safety, and reliability come first, helping create a positive impact for patients, colleagues, and the wider community.

What you’ll do as Maintenance Assistant
You’ll be entrusted to:

  • Support planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs across the hospital estate
  • Carry out basic maintenance tasks such as minor repairs, inspections, and adjustments within your level of competence
  • Assist with inspections of buildings, plant rooms, and equipment, reporting defects promptly
  • Prepare tools, equipment, and work areas to support maintenance activities
  • Follow health and safety procedures, including Infection Prevention and Control requirements
  • Escort contractors and ensure compliance with site safety and operational procedures
  • Liaise with clinical and non‑clinical staff, maintaining discretion and sensitivity in patient‑facing environments.
  • Accurately complete job records, checklists, and documentation using paper or electronic systems.

Does this sound like you?
You’ll be a great fit for this role if you have:

  • Experience working in a maintenance, facilities, or estates environment
  • Practical knowledge of basic building maintenance tasks
  • An understanding of health and safety principles and safe working practices
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a range of colleagues
  • A flexible approach and willingness to learn and adapt to service needs

Vetting and checks:
This role requires membership of the PVG Scheme, which involves a detailed check of spent and unspent convictions and other relevant information to ensure safeguarding compliance. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire so we can provide any necessary support to help you carry out your responsibilities.
