VIVO Defence, a joint venture between Serco and Engie, is recruiting a Grade 2 Maintenance Manager to lead the delivery of high-quality maintenance, repairs, and asset management services across the South Region. This role is critical in ensuring that Type 1 homes are maintained to the highest standards, while also supporting wider regional teams in Grade 1 & 2 Armed Forces accommodation properties as required.
The Role
As Maintenance Manager, you will play a hands-on leadership role, providing support, guidance, and direction to both internal teams and specialist subcontractors. You will be responsible for ensuring that planned and reactive maintenance activities are carried out safely, efficiently, and to a consistently high standard, while also managing complex repairs and keeping customers fully informed of progress. Working flexibly across the South Region, you will oversee subcontractor performance, ensuring value for money and service quality, and you will take ownership of compiling and analysing performance data, monitoring KPIs, identifying trends, and implementing effective actions to maintain operational excellence.
The role also involves developing and delivering project management approaches that support business change and continuous improvement, with a strong focus on efficiency, innovation, and delivering value for money without compromising quality. You will be expected to report on performance, liaise closely with key partners and stakeholders, and ensure that collaboration is at the heart of the service provided. Above all, excellent relationship management skills are essential, as you will act as a vital link between clients which include high ranking Armed Forces officers, stakeholders, teams, and contractors, building trust, resolving issues, and maintaining clear and open communication at all times.
This role requires candidates to pass SC Clearance as a condition of employment.
What You'll Bring
We are looking for a candidate with strong technical knowledge of repairs and maintenance services, together with a sound understanding of the regulatory and legislative requirements that govern this area, including relevant British Standards. A professional qualification such as CIOB or RICS, or progress towards one, would be highly advantageous, as would prior experience in project management and service delivery within a maintenance or facilities management environment. Familiarity with CAFM systems and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications are important, and a health and safety qualification such as IOSH would be beneficial. Previous military or defence sector experience would also be an advantage, though not essential.
To be successful in this role, you will need to be flexible, proactive, and highly organised, with the ability to travel regularly across the South Region. You will be an exceptional communicator, innovative in your approach to problem-solving, and able to take ownership of challenges while inspiring confidence in others. Strong leadership skills are required to motivate teams and manage contractors effectively, and your ability to build and maintain positive working relationships will be central to your success.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technically skilled and commercially aware maintenance professional to take the next step in their career, joining a nationally significant contract where you will directly influence service quality, operational performance, and customer satisfaction.
