Location: Home based, to cover sites across England from Essex to Newcastle
Permanent, Full time
Salary: Up to £70,000
At VIVO, we proudly deliver facilities management and infrastructure services across the Defence estate, helping to maintain the places where our Armed Forces live, work and train. We're looking for an experienced Gas Safety Manager to provide technical leadership and governance across our gas infrastructure, ensuring the highest standards of safety, compliance and operational excellence are maintained.
This is a pivotal leadership role where you'll be responsible for implementing, managing and continuously improving the Gas Safety Case, ensuring safe systems of work are consistently applied across the estate. Acting as the organisation's technical authority for gas safety, you'll work closely with Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) representatives, operational teams and senior stakeholders to ensure compliance with legislation, industry standards and Defence requirements.
You'll provide expert advice to the business on all aspects of gas safety, auditing compliance across multiple sites and identifying opportunities to strengthen safe systems of work. Working alongside Responsible Persons (RPs), you'll oversee their appointment, competency assessments, ongoing development and six-monthly reviews, ensuring they remain fully supported and compliant throughout their appointment.
You'll play a key role in reviewing technical standards, responding to changes in legislation and ensuring all relevant safety notices, technical bulletins and updates to the Gas Safety Case are communicated effectively across the business. You'll also contribute technical expertise to infrastructure projects, ensuring existing gas installations are safely integrated with new works while supporting project teams throughout delivery.
As part of the role, you'll investigate gas-related incidents, manage critical P1 events, monitor corrective actions and ensure all defects, operational restrictions and RIDDOR reportable events are appropriately managed and communicated. You'll maintain registers of Responsible Persons and Skilled Persons, oversee work-in-progress audits and provide regular assurance reporting to senior management and our Defence customers.
This is an excellent opportunity to influence gas safety across a nationally important estate while driving continuous improvement, supporting innovation and ensuring the highest levels of technical governance are maintained. The role offers a mixture of home working, site visits and travel across the UK, working collaboratively with operational teams and supply partners to deliver exceptional standards of compliance and safety.
This role will require regular travel to sites, which can be based anywhere between Essex and Newcastle.
About You
You'll have significant experience working within gas engineering, compliance or technical assurance, together with previous management or supervisory experience in a complex operational environment. You'll possess an excellent understanding of gas safety legislation, safe systems of work and compliance assurance, with the confidence to provide expert advice, challenge where appropriate and influence stakeholders at every level.
You'll be an engaging leader who enjoys developing people, assessing technical competence and creating a positive culture where safety is always the priority. Strong communication, analytical and decision-making skills are essential, along with the ability to audit, investigate issues and identify practical solutions that improve compliance and operational performance.
You'll hold current CCN1, CENWAT, CKR1 and HTR1 Gas Safe qualifications and have a full UK driving licence. You'll also be willing to work towards Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) status as part of your ongoing professional development.
If you're passionate about technical excellence, enjoy working in a highly regulated environment and want to play a key role in protecting one of the UK's most important estates, we'd love to hear from you.
