Location: RAF Lakenheath. On site role
Permanent, full time
Salary: £60,000-£70,000
We are looking for an experienced and commercially minded Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our team and provide expert commercial support across a range of facilities management, property maintenance and construction activities. This is a key role responsible for ensuring effective cost control, commercial governance and successful delivery of projects across the USVF contract.
As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will work closely with operational teams, clients, supply chain partners and commercial colleagues to provide cost advice, manage commercial risk and ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with contractual requirements.
You will provide commercial support across both core services and Billable Works, helping teams develop robust cost models, prepare work proposals, manage budgets and deliver value for money. You will support the full project lifecycle, from initial planning and pricing through to delivery, final accounts and post-contract cost control.
A key focus of the role will be maintaining strong commercial control across projects, ensuring budgets are effectively managed, financial targets are achieved and risks are identified and mitigated. You will monitor costs, support monthly reporting, review supply chain performance and provide insight to help improve commercial performance.
You will work collaboratively with internal teams, Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), clients and suppliers to build strong relationships and support successful contract delivery. You will provide guidance on contract requirements, support stakeholder negotiations and help resolve commercial issues, including dispute avoidance and resolution.
The role will involve reviewing and managing change, supporting contract processes and ensuring compliance with company procedures, health and safety requirements, sustainability objectives and statutory obligations. You will also contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to improve processes, strengthen controls and enhance service delivery.
You will support the development of collaborative relationships with clients and supply chain partners, helping to deliver a consistent and high-quality service. Through effective communication and commercial expertise, you will help operational teams make informed decisions and achieve contract objectives.
The role is primarily based at RAF Lakenheath, with regular travel required across USVF sites. A full UK driving licence and the ability to meet security requirements are essential.
About You
You will have strong experience working within quantity surveying, commercial management, construction, property maintenance or facilities management environments. You will have a proven understanding of commercial processes, cost management, contract administration and risk management.
You will have experience developing cost models, preparing tenders and work proposals, managing variations and supporting commercial decision-making. Experience managing multiple projects or programmes of work simultaneously, particularly within a complex operational environment, would be highly beneficial.
You will be confident working with stakeholders at all levels, with the ability to influence, negotiate and build effective working relationships with clients, suppliers and internal teams. Strong communication skills and the ability to provide clear commercial advice are essential.
You will be commercially aware, analytical and organised, with the ability to identify risks, solve problems and deliver practical solutions. Experience working with supply chains, contract performance management and value improvement initiatives will be advantageous.
A relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying or equivalent experience is required, alongside a good understanding of health and safety, sustainability and industry standards. Experience within a defence, MOD or highly regulated environment would be beneficial, as would knowledge of collaborative working practices such as BS11000.
You will be proactive, adaptable and committed to delivering high standards, supporting teams to achieve results while maintaining a strong focus on quality, compliance and customer satisfaction.
