Location: RAF Lakenheath (on site role)
Permanent, Mon-Fri 8am-4.30pm
Salary: Competitive
The Electrical Technical Services Manager will provide specialist leadership, technical expertise, and operational oversight across all aspects of electrical maintenance, ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of both planned and reactive maintenance activities. Acting as the technical authority in the electrical discipline, this role supports maintenance teams, contractors, and key stakeholders by providing professional advice, robust supervision, and clear direction to guarantee service excellence and statutory compliance.
A core responsibility of the role is the supervision and leadership of a team of Maintenance Engineers tasked with the delivery of maintenance across mechanical, electrical, and building fabric systems, with specific accountability for electrical systems, plant, and equipment. Working alongside the Maintenance Manager and Supervisors, you will contribute to the development of maintenance strategies and planned programmes, ensuring activities are delivered in accordance with departmental objectives, statutory regulations, and industry best practice. You will also assist in creating and implementing maintenance standards, systems, and processes that enable continuous performance measurement and improvement.
The role requires effective management of external contractors, ensuring that projects and services are delivered to specification, in compliance with key performance indicators and contractual obligations. This includes managing the full project handover process, covering commissioning, O&M manuals, training for staff, updates to asset registers and PPM schedules, as well as management of defect liability periods. You will also hold responsibilities as Duty Holder, Authorised, Responsible, or Competent Person for electrical systems, ensuring compliance checks and follow-up actions are consistently completed.
Health and safety is central to this position. You will maintain up-to-date knowledge of statutory requirements, lead on the development and review of Risk Assessments and Method Statements in line with HSE guidance, and ensure safe systems of work are consistently applied across all maintenance operations. A key part of this is ensuring that all electrical works are executed in compliance with departmental instructions, RAMS, JSP 375, and Safe Working Practices, with accurate records maintained through CAFM systems. You will also review inspection reports and certification, raising remedial tasks as necessary and ensuring statutory actions are properly identified, recorded, and resolved.
Supporting the Maintenance Manager, you will help build and develop the professional capabilities of the wider maintenance team, creating a culture of accountability, safety, and customer focus. You will play a key role in mentoring apprentices, delivering toolbox talks and technical bulletins, and ensuring that direct reports understand expectations and receive constructive feedback. Performance management will form an essential part of the role, recognising strong contributions while addressing areas requiring improvement.
What You'll Bring
Success in this role requires holding the 18th Edition electrical qualification, alongside demonstrable knowledge of EICR testing and inspection. A strong understanding of health and safety legislation, including COSHH and RIDDOR, is essential, as is proven experience in managing contractors within a maintenance or construction environment. Candidates must hold a full UK driving licence, be IT literate, and demonstrate excellent communication, leadership, and report-writing skills. Experience in programming works and allocating workloads, alongside prior team management responsibilities, will be crucial.
Desirable qualifications and experience include knowledge of lightning and cathodic protection systems, first aid accreditation, formal health and safety qualifications, and professional body membership. Prior experience of operating within MOD environments and/or existing SC clearance would be highly advantageous.
To succeed as an Electrical Technical Services Manager, you will combine deep technical expertise with strong leadership, contractor management, and relationship-building skills. You will ensure safe, compliant, and efficient operations, while delivering exceptional service standards to end users, stakeholders, and customers across a complex and high-profile estate.
