At VIVO, we deliver facilities management and infrastructure services across the Defence estate, helping to maintain the places where our Armed Forces live, work and train. We're looking for an experienced Gas Responsible Person to join our Compliance team, providing expert technical leadership and ensuring the safe operation of gas systems across a diverse and nationally significant portfolio.
This is an opportunity to become the recognised technical authority for gas compliance within your area, ensuring natural gas, LPG and associated systems are managed safely and in full compliance with statutory legislation, Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) requirements and VIVO policies. Your expertise will directly contribute to protecting people, maintaining operational capability and ensuring the Defence estate remains safe and compliant.
You'll oversee gas compliance activities across the estate, ensuring statutory inspections, servicing and preventative maintenance programmes are delivered effectively while monitoring performance against key compliance requirements. Through regular audits and assurance reviews, you'll identify areas for improvement, ensure corrective actions are completed and maintain the highest standards of technical governance.
Working closely with operational teams, contractors and project managers, you'll provide specialist advice on gas infrastructure, reviewing technical procedures, risk assessments and safe systems of work while supporting the design, installation and commissioning of new and existing gas systems. You'll also investigate incidents, identify root causes and recommend practical improvements that strengthen safety and compliance across the business.
A key part of the role will involve identifying and managing gas-related risks, maintaining compliance records and supporting emergency responses where required. You'll monitor high-risk assets, ensure appropriate control measures are in place and provide technical guidance during planned works and operational incidents.
You'll work collaboratively with contractors and supply chain partners, verifying competence, monitoring performance and ensuring all gas-related works are delivered by appropriately qualified personnel. You'll also maintain accurate compliance records, produce assurance reports and present technical findings and recommendations to senior stakeholders.
As a trusted technical expert, you'll coach and support operational teams, helping to develop gas safety awareness and promote a culture where safety, compliance and continuous improvement are at the heart of everything we do. The role offers a mixture of home working, site visits and regular travel across the Defence estate, including occasional out-of-hours support for critical compliance issues and participation in a one-in-four on-call rota.
About You
You'll have extensive experience managing gas compliance across large property, infrastructure or facilities management portfolios, together with a thorough understanding of the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations, Gas Safety Management Regulations, relevant British Standards and wider health and safety legislation. You'll be confident delivering compliance assurance, carrying out technical audits and making informed, risk-based decisions within a highly regulated environment.
You'll enjoy working collaboratively with operational teams, contractors and senior stakeholders, providing clear technical guidance while maintaining strong governance and compliance standards. Excellent communication, stakeholder management and reporting skills are essential, alongside the ability to analyse technical information, solve complex problems and drive continuous improvement.
You'll hold current ACS Gas qualifications appropriate to the scope of the role together with a recognised Mechanical or Building Services qualification such as an NVQ Level 3, HNC, HND or equivalent. Membership of a relevant professional body, or a willingness to work towards professional accreditation, is also essential.
Experience within Defence, MOD, Facilities Management or other highly regulated environments would be advantageous, as would knowledge of LPG systems, the MOD Gas Safety Case, DIO policies, defence engineering standards and IGEM/GL/6. Holding SCO competencies or EUSR Gas registration, Engineering Technician (EngTech) status, IOSH Managing Safely or a NEBOSH General Certificate would also be beneficial.
If you're passionate about technical excellence, safety leadership and making a real difference within one of the UK's most critical estates, we'd love to hear from you.
