We’re looking for a skilled and versatile Handyperson to join our team at HMS Collingwood – someone who loves rolling up their sleeves, fixing problems, and making a difference every day.
This isn’t just maintenance – it’s keeping vital MOD facilities ready for action.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Handyperson, you’ll carry out a wide range of preventative, reactive, and emergency repairs across building fabric and services. No two days are the same. One day you could be replacing door locks or repairing walls, the next fixing guttering or sorting out paving slabs.
You will report to the Built Estate Manager at the start of each day, sign in, and then self-schedule your tasks based on work orders and instructions.
You’ll be investigating and fixing faults quickly and effectively, handling carpentry, basic plumbing, decorating, brickwork, and minor roofing repairs. You’ll support customers directly, acting as the go-to contact for on-the-spot fixes. You’ll keep safety at the heart of everything you do, ensuring compliance with MOD and health and safety standards, and work closely with colleagues, managers, and supply chain partners to deliver a first-class service.
What We’re Looking For
We want someone who thrives in a fast-paced, hands-on environment and enjoys the satisfaction of solving practical problems.
You should bring a trade background with solid building fabric knowledge and hands-on experience in commercial or industrial maintenance, such as carpentry, plumbing, or brickwork. A flexible, can-do attitude and the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines are essential, along with strong customer service and communication skills. You’ll also need a full UK driving licence and the ability to obtain and maintain security clearance.
It would be an advantage if you have accredited health and safety, First Aid, or Water Regulations training, experience working in MOD or security-sensitive environments, or knowledge of COSHH, Legionella, and sustainability practices.
