Join Our Team as a Data Engineer and Visualisation Developer
Do you enjoy connecting data, uncovering insight and turning business challenges into solutions that people can use?
At VIVO Defence Services, we deliver essential infrastructure and facilities management services across the UK Defence estate. We’re looking for a Data Engineer and Visualisation Developer to strengthen our data capability and help operational teams and senior leaders make informed, evidence-based decisions.
This is a hands-on opportunity to combine data engineering with visualisation, taking ownership from understanding the business need through to delivering reliable data and meaningful insight.
About the Role
You’ll enhance and extend VIVO’s existing medallion data architecture, developing trusted, reusable data products across bronze, silver and gold layers.
Working with Microsoft Fabric, Azure, SQL and Power BI, you’ll build reliable pipelines, improve data quality and create clear reports and dashboards that help colleagues understand performance and take action.
You’ll work directly with stakeholders to explore the decisions they need to make and the problems they need to solve. From discovery and engineering to visualisation, testing and adoption, you’ll take responsibility for delivering solutions that meet those needs.
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll build and maintain data pipelines, transformations and reusable models, improving the quality, traceability, accessibility and performance of data within our existing architecture.
Working with operational teams and business functions, you’ll translate requirements into practical data products and analytical solutions. You’ll integrate and reconcile information from multiple systems, resolving data issues at source wherever possible.
You’ll develop intuitive Power BI reports, dashboards and semantic models, using clear visual design and data storytelling to make complex information understandable and actionable.
You’ll also help establish consistent definitions for measures and KPIs, reducing duplicated reporting and conflicting interpretations of performance. Alongside this, you’ll support self-service analytics with appropriate governance and access controls.
Throughout delivery, you’ll apply sound testing, version control, deployment, documentation and monitoring practices. You’ll work with users to validate solutions, support adoption and prioritise improvements according to customer value and operational impact.
What You’ll Bring
You’ll have strong practical experience in data engineering, analytics or business intelligence, including building and supporting data pipelines, dimensional models and analytics products.
You’ll be comfortable working across engineering and visualisation, with the curiosity to understand the underlying business problem and the ownership to see a solution through to live use.
We’re looking for:
- Strong capability in Microsoft Fabric, Azure data services, SQL and Power BI.
- Experience working with medallion architecture across bronze, silver and gold data layers.
- Experience developing data models, semantic models, reports and dashboards.
- The ability to integrate and reconcile data from multiple operational and corporate systems.
- Knowledge of data quality, lineage, testing, version control and deployment practices.
- A good understanding of security, access control and responsible data handling.
- Clear communication with technical colleagues, business users and senior stakeholders.
You’ll bring an analytical approach, attention to detail and a commitment to reliable outcomes, alongside experience taking business needs through engineering, visualisation and adoption.
Experience in facilities management, Defence, asset-intensive services or another regulated environment would be beneficial. A relevant degree or technical qualification is desirable, although we equally value expertise developed through practical professional experience.
Why Join VIVO?
This is an opportunity to build on an established data architecture and see your work influence real operational decisions. You’ll help colleagues access trusted information, understand performance and identify where improvements will make the greatest difference.
We offer a competitive salary and benefits package that recognises the experience and expertise you bring. We welcome conversations about flexible working days and hours, including a four-day working week, considering individual circumstances alongside business and customer needs.
The role is hybrid/home-based, with some travel across the UK. Flexibility may occasionally be needed to support important releases, incidents or operational deadlines.
You’ll need to hold, or be willing to obtain, the security clearance required to work within Defence environments.
Ready to turn trusted data into meaningful insight at VIVO? We’d like to hear from you.
