Location: Cambridgeshire - home based with regular travel to sites in Cambridgeshire

Permanent, Full time

Salary: £46,000

We are looking for an experienced and technically capable Gas Responsible Person (GRP) to provide specialist gas safety leadership across a designated area of the VIVO estate. This is a key role responsible for ensuring the safe management, operation and compliance of gas networks in line with the Gas Safety Management Plan (GSMP), statutory requirements and MOD standards.

As the appointed point of contact for gas-related technical matters, you will play a critical role in supporting safe service delivery across sites, providing professional advice to maintenance teams, stakeholders and end users. You will oversee the practical implementation of gas safety procedures, ensuring that activities are properly controlled through effective safe systems of work, permits and safety documentation.

You will work closely with the Gas Safety Manager, operational teams, DIO representatives, suppliers and site stakeholders to ensure gas assets and infrastructure remain compliant, safe and effectively managed. This includes maintaining and reviewing Gas Safety Management Plans, supporting maintenance and project activities, contributing to risk management processes and ensuring any issues or corrective actions are identified and resolved promptly.

The role will involve assessing the competence of Gas Skilled Persons, supporting training and development, and ensuring those working on gas systems understand their responsibilities and operate within approved procedures. You will produce and review risk assessments, method statements, safety programmes and gas permits to work, ensuring all activities meet required safety standards.

You will also provide technical input into gas-related projects, support the Helpdesk with specialist advice, contribute to risk meetings and work collaboratively with internal teams, contractors and external stakeholders to continuously improve gas safety performance.

This is a hybrid role involving home working alongside regular site visits, including planned inspections and attendance where required to support projects or emergency situations.

About You

You will be an experienced gas professional with a strong understanding of gas safety management, distribution networks and gas utilisation systems across commercial and domestic environments. You will have experience working with LPG installations, gas compliance processes and safe systems of work, with the ability to provide technical guidance and assurance to a wide range of stakeholders.

You will have practical experience of managing gas-related activities within an operational environment and be confident assessing competence, reviewing standards of work and ensuring compliance is maintained. Experience with Gas Safety Management Plans, Safe Control of Operations, SHEA Gas and escape, locate and repair activities would be highly beneficial.

You will be organised, proactive and safety-focused, with the ability to manage priorities, identify risks and provide effective solutions. Strong communication skills are essential, as you will need to influence and collaborate with engineers, managers, suppliers, clients and end users.

Experience within an MOD or similarly regulated environment would be advantageous, alongside knowledge of CDM regulations and the ability to work across multiple sites.

Please note: Candidates must be based no more than 1 hour drive from Bassingbourne Barracks, RAF Wyton or Carver Barracks.

You will also need to hold relevant gas qualifications and experience, be comfortable travelling as required, and be able to achieve and maintain SC clearance for the role.

  • Company car/car allowance
  • 25 days annual leave
  • Single private medical cover
