Are you curious about cyber security, passionate about protecting data, and eager to launch a career in one of the fastest-growing areas of technology?

VIVO is looking for an Information Security and Data Trainee to join our Technology team and help protect the systems and information that keep our organisation and our customers secure.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone at the start of their career who wants to gain practical experience across cyber security, data protection and risk management. You will work alongside experienced professionals who will support your development while giving you meaningful responsibilities and exposure to real information security challenges.

About the Role

As an Information Security Trainee, you will support the design, implementation and ongoing operation of systems and services that protect VIVO’s information and that of our customers. The role involves contributing to the technical, procedural and organisational measures that ensure our data is secure and that we remain compliant with legal, regulatory and contractual obligations.

The position sits within the IT team and reports to the Information Security Manager and General Counsel. You will work with colleagues across the organisation as well as with external suppliers and subcontractors, supporting security assurance activity throughout the business and its supply chain.

In this role you will help support the delivery of VIVO’s IT Security Strategy and wider assurance activities. You will assist in embedding a strong culture of cyber and data security awareness across the organisation, including supporting the Cyber Champions community through training, engagement activities and the escalation of emerging security concerns.

You will contribute to multidisciplinary operational teams by providing guidance on information security issues, risk considerations and policy development. This will include supporting reviews of Data Protection Impact Assessments and data sharing agreements, helping coordinate Data Subject Access Request processes, and assisting with audits across the Tier 1 supply chain to ensure alignment with standards such as Secure by Design and Cyber Essentials Plus.

The role will also involve supporting risk assessments using VIVO or customer methodologies and contributing to remediation and assurance plans where risks are identified. You will help maintain compliance with recognised standards and frameworks including ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials, Secure by Design assurance, the Data Protection Act and UK GDPR. Alongside this, you will contribute to the continuous improvement of key information security processes including security risk management, incident management and security service delivery activities.

What you’ll need

We are looking for someone with a genuine interest in information security and data protection who is keen to learn and develop within a professional environment. The successful candidate will have a broad awareness of information security concepts, which may include security architecture, operational security principles, data protection, risk assessment or audit and compliance activity.

Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, as the role requires engagement with a range of stakeholders across the organisation.

Ideally you will either hold, or be working towards, a recognised information security qualification. However, VIVO places a strong emphasis on finding the right individual with the right attitude, curiosity and willingness to learn.

The successful candidate must be able to pass SC Clearance to be eligible for this role.

As the role may involve visits to sites around the UK, a full and clean driving licence would be desirable.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to begin a career in information security while gaining exposure to industry standards, government frameworks and real-world security operations within a collaborative and supportive team environment.

We offer;

  • Up to 6% contributory pension scheme
  • 25 Days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Volunteer leave
  • One paid professional subscription
  • Life Assurance Policy
