VIVO Defence Services is looking for a confident and motivated Health & Safety Advisor to join our dedicated team based predominantly at Porton Down.

This role supports the Facilities Management and Billable Works teams across the Dstl Estate, working within a unique, dynamic environment where the impact of your work is meaningful and highly valued. If you are passionate about creating safe and sustainable workplaces and you enjoy engaging with people at all levels, this will be an exciting and fulfilling opportunity.

About the Role

You will work as part of the Health & Safety Team which currently includes four Health and Safety Advisors, two Administrators, a Health & Safety Manager and a Safety Technical specialist.

The team collaborates closely and supports each other across a wide range of responsibilities, including incident investigations, wellbeing initiatives, assurance, construction design management activities and project work.

The environment is fast paced and varied, and you will be working with multiple stakeholders across a busy estate. The role involves managing conversations that require confidence and clarity, so being a strong communicator who can influence and guide others is essential.

The work supports legal compliance, operational safety and assurance processes, and accuracy is essential to protect the wellbeing of individuals and the reputation of the organisation. You will also handle demanding workloads at times and will need to be organised and proactive in managing your time and priorities.

What you’ll need

To succeed, you should bring experience or qualifications in Health and Safety such as NEBOSH General Certificate, SMSTS, Temporary Works or a construction-related H&S background. Experience supporting CDM (Construction Design and Management) or working within construction, project or facilities environments would be highly beneficial. Strong computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel, are also important.

You will need to be confident engaging with colleagues, contractors and managers, able to handle potentially challenging conversations and comfortable with the importance of accurate record keeping.

You MUST BE  a British National to be eligible for this role and be able to pass SC clearance.

This role has real opportunities for development. The team has training programmes planned for 2026 and there are broader learning pathways across both VIVO and the wider Serco organisation. Several staff have successfully progressed into Advisor and Management roles, and this position offers a clear route to career growth for someone who is committed and eager to learn.

VIVO is committed to maintaining a culture of Zero Harm and continuous improvement. You will contribute to building a safe environment by conducting inspections, leading training and inductions, engaging with a wide range of stakeholders and supporting sustainability initiatives across the contract. The work is varied, impactful and requires someone who is reliable, approachable and confident in sharing the safety message.

If you want to make a difference, grow your career within a supportive team and play a key role in shaping a safer future on the Dstl Estate, we would be delighted to hear from you.
