Location: DSTL, Salisbury (on site role)
Permanent, Full time
Salary: Competitive
Are you passionate about health and safety and ready to play a key role in ensuring a secure, compliant, and forward-thinking environment across one of the UK’s most unique and high-security defence estates? VIVO has an exciting opportunity for a motivated and proactive Health & Safety Advisor to join our team supporting the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) Estate.
The Role
In this pivotal role, you’ll be part of a dedicated safety team, helping ensure that all maintenance and project activities are delivered in line with the highest safety and environmental standards. You’ll provide expert support across planned preventative maintenance, reactive works and billable projects, ensuring legal compliance, championing a Zero Harm culture, and promoting continuous improvement throughout.
You’ll be working closely with teams across the estate, acting as a trusted advisor for all things related to health, safety, fire safety, and environmental best practices. Whether you’re carrying out site inspections, assisting with accident investigations, presenting SHE inductions or toolbox talks, or supporting sustainability initiatives, you’ll be at the heart of operations—making sure that everyone goes home safe, every day.
This is a dynamic and varied role that will suit someone confident in presenting information, comfortable challenging non-compliance, and committed to building professional relationships across multiple stakeholders. You’ll help translate policy into practice, guiding site teams in how to manage risk, comply with regulations, and adopt safe systems of work.
Due to the nature of the site, candidates must be British Nationals and pass SC Clearance as a condition of employment.
What You'll Bring
To succeed here, you’ll need a strong understanding of health, safety and environmental legislation and how it applies in real-world operational settings. You’ll enjoy problem-solving, working collaboratively, and be eager to support the team through training, inspections, audits, and incident investigations. You’ll also need to be highly organised, with excellent communication skills, and the ability to tailor your approach to different audiences.
This role requires British nationality due to site clearance needs, and applicants must be 18 or over, able to obtain SC clearance, and hold a full UK driving licence.
If you're looking to make a real difference, grow in a supportive and professional environment, and help shape a culture of safety excellence in a unique defence setting, then this is your chance. Join VIVO and play your part in keeping people safe, systems secure, and operations running smoothly. Apply today and take the next step in your health and safety career!
