Location: Home based, to be located in Worcestershire to cover sites from Essex to Newcastle
Permanent, Full time
Salary: £50,000 - £55,000
At VIVO, we proudly deliver facilities management and infrastructure services across the Defence estate, helping to maintain the places where our Armed Forces live, work and train. We're looking for an experienced Gas Responsible Person to join our growing Compliance team, playing a critical role in ensuring the safe operation and compliance of gas systems across a diverse and nationally important portfolio.
This is an opportunity to become the recognised technical expert for gas compliance, providing governance, assurance and specialist advice that protects people, property and operational capability. Working across natural gas, LPG and associated systems, you'll help ensure our estate remains fully compliant with legislation, Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) requirements and VIVO policies.
You'll oversee statutory inspections, planned maintenance programmes and compliance activities while carrying out technical audits, reviewing documentation and ensuring corrective actions are completed effectively. Working closely with operational teams, contractors and project managers, you'll provide technical guidance on maintenance, refurbishment and new installations, reviewing designs, risk assessments and safe systems of work to ensure the highest standards of safety are maintained.
You'll play a key role in identifying and managing gas-related risks, maintaining compliance records and supporting emergency responses where required. You'll also assess contractor competence, monitor supplier performance and ensure everyone working on gas systems meets the required qualifications and standards.
As a trusted technical adviser, you'll produce compliance reports, present findings to senior stakeholders and help drive continuous improvement across the business. You'll support the development of operational teams through coaching and guidance while promoting a proactive safety culture across the Defence estate.
This is a varied role offering a blend of home working, site visits and technical leadership. You'll regularly travel across the VIVO estate, visiting operational, industrial and military sites, with occasional out-of-hours support for critical compliance issues.
This role will require regular travel to sites, which can be based anywhere between Essex and Newcastle.
About You
You'll have extensive experience managing gas compliance across large property, facilities management or infrastructure portfolios and possess a thorough understanding of gas legislation, British Standards and wider health and safety regulations. You'll be confident carrying out compliance audits, managing planned and reactive maintenance programmes and making informed, risk-based technical decisions.
You'll be comfortable building relationships with contractors, clients and operational teams, providing clear technical advice while maintaining the highest standards of governance and compliance. Strong communication, reporting and stakeholder management skills are essential, along with the ability to analyse technical information and drive improvements across a complex estate.
Current ACS Gas qualifications relevant to the role are essential, together with a recognised Mechanical or Building Services qualification such as an NVQ Level 3, HNC or HND, or equivalent experience. Membership of a relevant professional body, or a willingness to work towards professional accreditation, is also required.
Experience within Defence, MOD, Facilities Management or other highly regulated environments would be advantageous, as would knowledge of LPG systems, DIO policies and defence engineering standards. Qualifications such as IOSH Managing Safely, NEBOSH, Gas Safe registration, or Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status would also be beneficial.
In return, you'll join a collaborative organisation that values technical excellence, continuous improvement and professional development while giving you the opportunity to make a real impact on one of the UK's most critical estates.
