Since 2012, Serco has proudly operated NorthLink Ferries, providing a lifeline ferry service between mainland Scotland and the Northern Isles of Orkney and Shetland.
We are currently looking for a Management Accountant to join our NorthLink Ferries Finance Team. In this key role, you will provide financial insight and guidance to support decision-making, maintain robust controls, and help drive sustainable business performance. Reporting directly to the Finance Manager, you will also contribute to accurate financial reporting, compliance, and the delivery of transparent results across the contract.
As part of this you’ll:
- Prepare monthly financial reports, commentaries, and statements
- Manage Accounts Receivable processes, including invoicing, payment allocations, debt collection, refunds, and credit notes
- Complete balance sheet and revenue reconciliations
- Assist with forecasting, projections, and budget holder engagement
- Conduct cost variance analysis and investigations
- Oversee the Purchase Ledger Controller and Site Purchasing Coordinators
- Manage petty cash and float reconciliations
- Support audit requirements and ensure compliance with financial legislation
- Provide ad hoc financial reporting and analysis as required
What you’ll need to do the role:
- Part qualified/working towards Chartered, or similar, Accountancy Qualification
- At least 2+ years’ finance experience, ideally in a busy commercial environment
- Experience in high-volume accounts payable/receivable processes (desirable)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with excellent attention to detail
- Strong analytical and numeracy skills
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel in particular); SAP experience is advantageous
- Ability to manage competing priorities, take initiative, and drive improvements
- A collaborative and proactive mindset with strong stakeholder management skills
