Ready to impact a better future?

Here at Birmingham Leisure Trust our goal is to encourage active, healthy lifestyles in an environment that is safe, warm, clean, friendly and fun. To be the destination of choice for being part of an active community. To deliver those services takes an enthusiastic and customer focused team - and right now we are looking to recruit for a Technical & Energy Manager to join our team. You’ll help deliver safe, efficient, and forward‑thinking building operations that positively influence energy consumption and contribute to a more sustainable future.

Your work will support stronger community outcomes by improving the efficiency of facilities, reducing carbon impact, and helping shape long‑term solutions. You’ll play a key role in ensuring buildings operate safely, responsibly, and with the future firmly in mind.

What you’ll do as a Technical and Energy Manager
You’ll be entrusted to:

  • Support and assist the contract in delivering effective management of building services, ensuring assets, systems, and documentation meet statutory and contractual requirements.
  • Lead on site‑based energy management, analysing consumption data, developing improvement plans, and optimising electromechanical plant performance.
  • Oversee compliance management, including Safe Systems of Work, facility management systems, documentation control, and record keeping.
  • Contribute to procurement, coordination, and oversight of planned and reactive maintenance, capital works, and sub‑contractor activity.
  • Lead energy and carbon reduction initiatives, maintaining the Leisure Energy Management System and supporting ISO 50001:2018 certification.
  • Collaborate with Contract Managers, Building Services teams, and operational colleagues to drive energy awareness and achieve reduction targets.
  • Provide regular reporting, analysis, updates, and future planning insights for energy management and asset performance.

Does this sound like you?
You’ll be a great fit for this role if you have…

  • In‑depth knowledge of health, safety, and welfare procedures.
  • Strong understanding of statutory regulations relating to buildings, electro‑mechanical systems, and quality procedures.
  • Experience in energy management, ideally within the Leisure sector or similar environment.
  • Knowledge of HVAC design, operation and maintenance, along with BMS (Building Management System) control and commissioning strategies.
  • Experience conducting energy audits, analysing data, and delivering energy management programmes across regional portfolios.
  • IT literacy, strong analytical skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with technical, operational, and stakeholder groups.
  • A relevant technical qualification in building maintenance or energy‑related discipline, and experience in leadership or team coordination.

Vetting and checks
As well as checking eligibility to work in the UK, you will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire to help us identify and provide any support you may need to undertake the role effectively.
