Serco have a fantastic opportunity for a Lead Day Technician to join the team at TCS Oakhanger.
In this role you will lead and coordinate daytime maintenance operations and resources, ensuring the effective configuration and real-time operation of satellite ground and communication systems. You will be responsible for overseeing routine maintenance, system checks, fault diagnosis and rectification, and system recovery, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
Managing a team of Day Technicians, you will aim to deliver seamless, uninterrupted satellite support. We are seeking a Lead Day Technician who is an effective communicator, a confident leader, and highly motivated to achieve the best possible results.
Main Accountabilities:
- Ensure full compliance with the Serco Management Systems, UK, Europe, and TCS policies/procedures, setting the standard for the team.
- Coordinate and participate in planned maintenance activities and system troubleshooting, ensuring efficient task delegation and resolution.
- Provide advanced technical expertise and mentorship during fault diagnosis and corrective maintenance activities.
- Act as the senior technical authority in the area, ensuring all events are accurately checked, documented and reported to the Duty Supervisor.
- Regularly deputise for the Chief of Support when required, ensuring continuity of leadership and operational effectiveness.
- Oversee the execution of planned maintenance in line with the site’s PMI database, ensuring quality and compliance.
- Ensure all maintenance activities are thoroughly documented in accordance with site procedures, both electronically and in paper form.
- Participate in and help coordinate the one-in-three weekly call-out rota, supporting team readiness and response.
- Lead the execution of Risk Assessments and Planned General Inspections, ensuring safety and procedural adherence.
- Direct and participate in Level 2 PDM actions with the team, aligning work schedules to meet site action requirements.
- Demonstrate flexibility and commitment by supporting overtime requirements, when necessary, with appropriate consent.
- Support the continuous development of direct reports through coaching, on-the-job training, and performance feedback.
What you’ll need to do the role:
- GCSE Grade C Math’s and English.
- ONC but will require HNC (or equivalent) Electronic Engineering.
- CompTIA Security + certification, or achieving course certification before end of probation period
- Extensive experience on TCS-A, TCS-B and TCS-C operational systems
- Good knowledge of the Microsoft MS packages.
- Willing to travel overseas if required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain SC (Security Clearance).
- Full Driving License and a willingness to drive company vehicles.
