Senior Analytics Engineer

Band 4 / £60,000 - £70,000 (dependent on experience)
Here at Serco, we’re looking for a Senior Analytics Engineer to design and build high-quality, analysis-ready data products and enterprise dashboards that enable trusted decision-making across UK&E. You will define and implement semantic modelling standards, ensure consistency and reliability of data products, and act as a specialist advisor on analytics engineering, BI consumption models, and reporting.
Working on the Armed Forces Recruitment Service contract, you will play a key role in shaping scalable, governed, and reusable data assets that support enterprise reporting, self-service analytics, and advanced insight generation.
As part of this you’ll:
- Build/ design advanced dashboards and reporting solutions (Power BI, Databricks or similar) to support KPI, operational, strategic, and ad-hoc insight needs
- Design and maintain enterprise semantic models (dimensional, canonical, and lakehouse gold layers) ensuring consistency and scalability
- Publish certified, governed datasets and define standards for BI consumption, enabling reliable self-service analytics
- Partner with data engineering to improve data quality, enforce security standards, and maintain lineage, metadata, and documentation
- Implement and optimise data pipelines and analytics models using Spark, Delta Lake, and cloud-native tooling
- Coach and support analytics engineers and analysts through code reviews, mentoring, and best practice adoption
- Translate stakeholder requirements into clear, prioritised, high-value data products while challenging ambiguity and assumptions
- Act as an SME for analytics solutions across Azure/AWS, PowerBI and Databricks-based environments
- Drive performance, cost efficiency, and scalability of analytics solutions through continuous optimisation
- Promote modern analytics engineering standards including CI/CD, testing frameworks, and reusable patterns
What you’ll need to do the role:
- Strong BI experience across Microsoft stack (Power BI, SQL Server/SSRS, Excel); exposure to Tableau, Qlik, SAP Analytics Cloud or Domo desirable
- Strong communication skills, able to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
- Expertise in semantic modelling, metrics layers, and certified dataset design for BI consumption
- Practioner in data modelling (dimensional and lakehouse architectures) and enterprise dataset design
- Working knowledge in Data Engineering (Delta Lake, performance tuning, orchestration, schema evolution)
- Strong understanding of cloud data platforms (Azure or AWS) and secure, scalable data architectures
- Experience implementing data quality frameworks, validation, profiling, and documentation standards
- Strong analytical and data synthesis capability
- 5+ years’ experience in enterprise-scale analytics, BI, or analytics engineering environments
- Proven experience delivering production-grade analytics solutions in complex organisations
- Cloud certifications (Azure, AWS, Databricks) - desirable
- SC clearance (or willingness to obtain it)
