We are currently seeking a SW Developer to join our team supporting the EuroControl in Brussels, Belgium, as well as in other locations across Europe. 

Background

SASS-C (Surveillance Analysis Support System for ATC Centre) is a software suite for surveillance infrastructure analysis operated by ANSP’s, CAA’s and ATM industry, and maintained/developed by EUROCONTROL together with its industrial partners.
The required profile is a senior software developer with strong system and architectural expertise, responsible for the technical support, evolution, and long-term sustainability of the SASS-C surveillance system performance analysis tool. The role requires in-depth knowledge of advanced mathematical algorithms for surveillance data reconstruction and estimation, including filtering and state-estimation techniques (such as Kalman-based methods), which are core to the scientific validity and operational reliability of the system.
The scope of the services covers advanced activities across the full software lifecycle, including installation and configuration of the product, validation and acceptance of new software versions, scripting and advanced configuration, and contribution to the continuous improvement of system robustness, performance, and maintainability. Where appropriate, the consultant shall apply AI-assisted techniques to support software development, testing, validation, and analysis activities, in accordance with EUROCONTROL standards and practices, with the objective of improving efficiency and software quality while preserving the integrity of the underlying algorithms.
The consultant shall actively maintain, operate, and evolve the SASS-C platform deployed at EUROCONTROL, ensuring architectural coherence, algorithmic integrity, mathematical correctness, and compatibility with future developments, including the controlled adoption of AI-enabled approaches where relevant.

Education Requirement

Mandatory

  • The proposed consultant shall have a completed University or equivalent Master’s Degree in one of the following disciplines: Computer Science, Physics, Engineering, Mathematics

Desirable

  • The proposed consultant should hold a PhD (Doctorate) in Computer Science or Engineering with a specific research focus on one or more of the following domains: Surveillance Data Processing, Multi-sensor Data Fusion, Trajectory Analysis 

Language requirement

Mandatory

  • Proficient user in English (Level C1 or equivalent) for both written and spoken communication, capable of drafting scientific and technical documentation. 5 years of working in an international environment will be considered as an equivalent proof.

Technical/Professional qualification

Desirable

  • Proven track record of scientific publications (journals/conferences) in the field of data fusion or tracking algorithms.
     

Experience/Skills required

Mandatory

  • At least 3 years of experience in the ATM Surveillance domain,Proven experience in Reverse Engineering legacy C++ 
  • The consultant shall have a proven experience in Software Build Management and CI/CD automation, specifically using Jenkins to orchestrate compilation and testing workflows for C++ applications.

Desirable

  • Experience in applied experience in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning techniques for data analysis or automation within engineering projects
  • Experience in a proven experience in system validation using simulated trajectories or synthetic data generation to verify tracking performance before operational deployment.
  • Experience in ability to diagnose complex algorithmic issues (e.g., tracker behavior) using mathematical modelling and statistical analysis.
  • Experience in Test Automation strategies, including unit testing for C++ (e.g., GTest) and integration testing for surveillance data processing chains.
  • Experience in documentation as Code paradigms (e.g., using Markdown, LaTeX, or Doxygen linked to Git repositories) to maintain high-quality technical documentation.
  • Experience in managing legacy system maintenance.
