Ready to impact a better future?
As an Aircraft Wheel and Tyre Bay Technician at RAF Brize Norton, you’ll support the vital engineering activity that keeps the Royal Air Force’s fleet operational. Working as part of a team delivering multi‑activity support to the RAF and Ministry of Defence, your work directly contributes to safe, reliable and mission‑critical aircraft capability. You’ll be based at the RAF’s largest operating base, working alongside thousands of service personnel, civilians and contractors who come together to deliver essential air transport and air‑to‑air refuelling operations.
You’ll help deliver high‑quality maintenance of C‑17 aircraft wheels and tyres, ensuring compliance, safety and efficiency. Your work has real purpose — supporting operations that touch lives, communities and the wider defence mission.
What you’ll do as an Aircraft Wheel and Tyre Bay Technician
You’ll be entrusted to:
- Complete maintenance, inspections, repairs and rectification of C‑17 aircraft wheels and tyres and associated equipment.
- Carry out removal, inspection and refit of assemblies and components in line with maintenance schedules, technical publications and workshop manuals.
- Ensure tasks are completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with health and safety, fire, quality, risk and COSHH requirements.
- Maintain a safe, tidy and effective working environment.
- Adhere to Technical Work Procedures, Health and Safety Instructions and Serco Operating Procedures.
Must ensure that all maintenance and documentation is completed correctly, accurately and right first time – every time.
Does this sound like you?
You’ll be a great fit for this role if you have:
- The ability to safely and effectively complete technical maintenance and rectification tasks.
- Functional IT skills to use electronic technical manuals and update maintenance recording systems.
- A strong team‑focused approach with a positive, safe‑working mindset.
- High‑quality written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to achieve Ministry of Defence Security Clearance.
Desirable experience:
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Engineering Maintenance.
- Aviation engineering maintenance experience.
Additional responsibilities
You’ll also:
- Collaborate with colleagues to deliver effective, efficient “right first time, every time” results.
- Ensure all maintenance and tasks are completed accurately.
- Notify the Team Leader of any safety hazards or risks.
- Maintain good engineering and maintenance practices.
- Comply with Aircraft Component Maintenance requirements.
- Ensure compliance with relevant Quality Systems.
- Support audit activity as required.
- Raise concerns when deficiencies emerge relating to safety, engineering standards or compliance.
- Promote a Zero Harm, open‑reporting safety culture where all colleagues feel empowered to report issues.

This role requires Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance, which includes verification of identity, employment history, nationality and criminal record. Depending on the role’s requirements, further security checks may be needed, such as Counter Terrorist Check (CTC) or Security Check (SC). UK residency requirements may apply. You’ll also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire so we can understand and support your needs.
