At RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire, Serco has been providing multi-activity and engineering support since 1997. Serco proudly support the RAF and MoD, supplying around 20 different services onsite, from engine and aircraft maintenance, to fuelling and ground control services. RAF Brize Norton is the largest operating base within the Royal Air Force, providing air transport and air-to-air refuelling to the RAF fleet, you will contribute enormously to the vital work carried out here. You’ll also be part of the wider team, with 5,800 service personnel, 1,200 contractors and 300 civil servants on site.
There is currently a vacancy for a Serco Station Workshops Welder/Fabricator working within Station Workshops at RAF Brize Norton.
Main duties:
- Delivery of Serco Station Workshops Engineering Services.
- Provide the Serco Brize Norton Station Workshops Engineering Supervisor, and RAF Brize Norton a focal point to ensure the effective delivery of Serco Station Workshops
- Welder/Fabricator output - ensuring that the products and services delivered always meet the required standard and comply with regulatory requirements.
- Provision of Serco Station Workshops Welder/Fabricator activities and output ensuring effective, efficient, “right first time every time” output to our customers.
- Ensure that all their work is correctly certified and that records of work carried out are retained safely and securely for the statutory period.
- Remaining authorised, competent, qualified to plan, perform, supervise, inspect, certify the work and complete the tasks.
- Ensuring a record of their training and experience is kept up to date and available for review.
- Ensuring that they comply with appropriate work procedures and have an effective working knowledge of current regulatory requirements. Including the Serco Management System, appropriate MoD legislation, BSI ISO, HASAW Act and local Serco and RAF Brize Norton processes and procedures.
What you need to do the role:
- Welding BTEC ONC/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
- Welder/Fabricator experience. Fabrication and repair of items using engineering drawings and patterns. Fabrication and repair of ground/aircraft components using the MIG/TIG process. Use of oxygen/acetylene for soldering/brazing/cutting.
- The ability to successfully implement and apply relevant Government legislation, MoD legislation, Serco and RAF Brize Norton processes and procedures.

MoD Security Clearance. Due to the nature of the organisation, all employees of Serco are required to be security cleared to SC level. If successful in your application, we would support you with the SC process. As a guideline only, you would normally need to have been a UK resident for the last 5 consecutive years.

The individual must be able to submit 6 monthly weld test samples to the relevant scientific authority to be deemed competent
