Serco have a fantastic opportunity for an Aviation Tutor to join the team in Darlington working at the International Fire Training Centre.

 

As the Aviation Tutor, your main purpose will be to deliver quality firefighting and fire fighter leadership techniques through presentations, demonstration and instruction.  Additionally, the post holder will be required to assess the performance of candidates using a range of methods, take responsibility for the management of students and design, develop, evaluate and improve course materials in accordance with client requests, professional and regulatory standards.

 

We are seeking a qualified and communicative individual who demonstrates adaptability and flexibility to support the successful delivery of the contract.

 

Main Accountabilities: 

 

  • Deliver aviation training programmes in accordance with QMS procedures (e.g. mandatory, regulated training or bespoke aviation training programmes)
  • Deliver non sector specific training programmes based on qualifications and in accordance with QMS procedures (e.g. SCBA Instructor, Compartment Fire Behaviour Training)
  • Support the delivery of non-aviation training programmes in accordance with QMS procedures (e.g. Offshore, Industrial, Marine programmes)
  • Assess students’ performance against recognised standards using a range of methods in accordance with QMS procedures
  • Provide students/sponsors with follow up reports and action plans in the agreed format
  • Provide feedback to line managers on matters of student performance, staff performance, health and safety
  • Carry out course update work for courses to maintain compliance with regulatory and legislative requirements
  • Design and develop training programmes in response to client and business needs
  • Working with the training team, apply innovation and creativity to the methods of delivery to enhance the learning experience for students
  • Participate in personal development to broaden the type and range of courses that can be delivered
  • Participate in staff appraisals to promote self-development and meet future business needs
  • Carry out any allocated tasks in accordance with QMS procedures or accepted best practice.
  • Maintain equipment in accordance with recognised procedures
  • Report shortfalls and non-conformities to line manager promptly and in the recognised format
  • Represent IFTC at industry conferences, meetings and marketing events as required or agreed to by the line manager
  • Conduct all aspects of the role within the principles of the company staff code of conduct
  • Maintain health and fitness levels to undertake the role (in accordance with recognised guidelines)
  • Undertake any other duties, within the scope of personal capabilities, as required by the business

 

What you’ll need to do the role: 

 

  • Supervisory Level Fire Service qualification – Essential
  • Minimum L3 teaching qualification or in process - Essential
  • A1 (TAQA) assessing qualification or in process – Essential
  • BAI qualification
  • CFBT qualification
  • LGV Qualified
  • Good level of literacy to undertake report writing and lesson planning
  • Confident speaker
  • Adaptable and flexible
  • Aviation fire and rescue experience (Minimum 4 years)
  • Technical understanding of fire and rescue practical application
  • IT – MS Office Suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
