On behalf of our client EUMETSAT, we are seeking a Network Technician to provide technical support and operational assistance across computing, storage, and network environments within a critical data centre infrastructure. The role involves contributing to system monitoring, hardware maintenance, incident management, and day-to-day operational support activities while working within ITIL service management frameworks to ensure reliable and efficient service delivery.

The position is based on-site at EUMETSAT’s premises in Darmstadt and operates within a flexible hybrid working model.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor systems and perform initial investigations of detected hardware, software, and performance issues.
  • Manage computer-side LAN connectivity cabling and configuration.
  • Define the necessary data flows within standard templates.
  • Manage IP allocation and DNS entries through the DNS/IPAM system.
  • Add and remove devices, generate reports upon request, and perform NMS tuning activities.
  • Carry out testing activities.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation.
  • Apply structured documentation practices and work with ticketing and change management systems.

Skills

  • Basic understanding of networking concepts, including the OSI model, VLANs, IP addressing, routing, wireless technologies, DNS/DHCP, and ACLs.
  • Familiarity with common network device interfaces, including Cisco CLI, web interfaces, and SNMP-based tools.
  • Basic understanding of ACI principles is desirable; however, in-house training on the dashboard can be provided.
  • Experience using network monitoring platforms and log management tools.
  • Experience with tools such as SolarWinds, NetBrain, Opsview, and Splunk.
  • Ability to interpret alerts and log entries related to interface status, link health, and device availability.
  • Understanding of VPN technologies and remote access troubleshooting.
  • Experience  working with the Atlassian JIRA Service Desk Tool.
