On behalf of our client EUMETSAT, we are seeking a Storage Technician to provide technical support and operational assistance across computing, storage, and network environments within a critical data centre infrastructure. The role involves contributing to system monitoring, hardware maintenance, incident management, and day-to-day operational support activities while working within ITIL service management frameworks to ensure reliable and efficient service delivery.
The position is based on-site at EUMETSAT’s premises in Darmstadt and operates within a flexible hybrid working model.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage data storage and distribution, including large data lakes and backup services.
- Perform backup and restore tasks in accordance with established procedures.
- Manage SAN connectivity cabling and configuration.
- Handle tape libraries and removable media, and coordinate data archival activities.
- Raise vendor support tickets and track hardware replacements.
- Carry out testing activities.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation.
Skills
- Familiarity with enterprise NAS/SAN platforms (e.g. NetApp, Dell EMC, HPE 3PAR, Synology, or QNAP).
- Basic understanding of RAID, LUNs, volumes, and snapshot management.
- Experience handling tape libraries, removable media, and coordinating data archival activities.
- Awareness of backup systems and tools (e.g. Veeam, Commvault, Veritas NetBackup, Bacula).
- Strong attention to detail when following structured procedures and maintaining audit-ready documentation.
- Competence in raising vendor support tickets and tracking hardware replacements.
- Experience working with the Atlassian JIRA Service Desk Tool.
