We are looking for a skilled and motivated Training Officer to join our dynamic Training unit within the Serco Spacecraft Operations Centre. As a Training Officer, you will be responsible for designing, developing and delivering comprehensive training programs in satellite operations domain. Training Officers are involved in creating technical training materials, conducting hands-on and theoretical training sessions and staying updated on advancements in satellite technology and operations to ensure training aligns with industry standards and missions’ requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain training curricula for Serco Spacecraft Operations Centre personnel, including satellite Flight Control Team members, ground station operators and mission support staff. 
  • Create a training plan for all individuals and for the team as required.
  • Create planning schedule for the proficiency/refreshment training modules, maintain and execute proficiency training to agreed schedule.
  • Organize and carry out training directly and/or with assistance from the operational units using theoretical tests and simulations where appropriate.
  • Maintain training plans in accordance with operational updates, lessons learnt session.
  • Create and agree the certification process for each assigned role, arrange and carry out certification process, where necessary involving members from the operational units.
  • Provide feedback to individuals and where necessary follow up training.
  • Monitoring and periodic review of training proficiency among service personnel and implementing remedial action (including retraining and recertification, if necessary).
  • Act as a back-up for the Head of Training Unit when necessary.

Skills

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, Electrical Engineering, Space Science or a related field.
  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience/certifications (e.g. Serco Space Academy certified, or similar) is a plus.

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in satellite operations, ground systems, or a related space technology field.
  • 2+ years of experience in training, instructional design, or adult education, preferably in a technical or aerospace context
  • Exposure to the ESA/Eumetsat operational environments would be an advantage

Technical skills:

  • Familiarity with satellite systems, including TT&C, payload operations, and ground station infrastructure
  • Proficiency in satellite control software (SCOS2000 etc.), simulation tools and mission operations platforms
  • Knowledge of RF communications, orbital mechanics, and satellite anomaly resolution techniques
  • Satellite Tool Kit (STK) experience is a plus

Soft skills:

  • Excellent communication and presentations skills to convey complex technical concepts clearly
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in developing training materials and tracking progress
  • Ability to adapt training methods to diverse learning styles and technical backgrounds
