As a Water Hygiene Specialist in our Healthcare Estates team, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring the safe, compliant, and effective management of water systems across Darent Valley Hospital. You'll provide technical expertise, lead water hygiene compliance activities, and help maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors, and colleagues.

What you’ll do as a Water Hygiene Specialist
• Act as the Responsible Person (Water), ensuring compliance with HTM 04-01, ACOP L8, HSG274, and contractual requirements.
• Lead the implementation, management, and continual improvement of the site's Water Safety Plan.
• Oversee Legionella risk assessments, water sampling programmes, flushing regimes, temperature monitoring, and remedial actions.
• Manage specialist contractors, ensuring high standards of quality, safety, competency, and value for money.
• Provide technical support and guidance for lifecycle projects, capital works, and water-related improvement initiatives.
• Maintain accurate compliance records, investigate incidents, support audits, and contribute to Water Safety Group meetings.
• Close liaison with AE and advisory AEs in and outside of Water Safety Group.
Does this sound like you?
• Technical qualification in engineering or a related discipline, or significant experience in a water hygiene engineering role.
• City and Guilds or British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS) Legionella qualifications, such as WH003 Legionella Control for Responsible Persons.
• Knowledge of healthcare estates environments and water hygiene legislation, guidance, and best practice.
• Experience working with Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) systems, compliance documentation, and technical reports.
• Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trust and collaborate effectively across teams.

Vetting and checks
A Standard DBS check will be carried out for this position. This includes spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands, and warnings as permitted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. An Occupational Health Questionnaire will also be completed so we can ensure you have the necessary support to perform your duties.
