Ready to impact a better future?
As an AGE/GES Mechanic in our Defence team, you’ll help keep essential Aerospace Ground Equipment operating safely and efficiently to support aircraft maintenance and flying operations.

You’ll play a key role in ensuring mission‑ready support equipment is available when it’s needed most. By maintaining and preparing critical assets, your work will directly support operational continuity and contribute to the positive impact our services have on defence personnel, communities, and the future of safe military operations.

At Serco, we proudly welcome and actively support applications from veterans, military spouses, and reservists—valuing the unique skills, dedication, and experience they bring to our team.

What you’ll do as an AGE/GES Mechanic
You’ll be entrusted to:

  • Inspect, test, operate, and service Aerospace Ground Equipment and towing vehicles to maintain operational serviceability.
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, including cleaning, repairs, troubleshooting, overhaul, modification, preservation, refurbishment, and equipment delivery.
  • Follow all relevant technical orders, Department of the Air Force Instructions, and local directives to ensure safe, compliant work.
  • Use automated maintenance data systems to record activities and update equipment status accurately.
  • Support continuous improvement by researching and applying ways to improve efficiency and reduce waste from maintenance processes.

Does this sound like you?
You’ll be a great fit for this role if you have…

  • A minimum of two years of hands‑on mechanical experience in troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining machinery.
  • Proficiency to the level of an AFSC 2A652 Aerospace Ground Equipment craftsman or civilian equivalent, including diagnostics and use of automated maintenance systems.
  • Flexibility to perform cross‑functional duties, including Marshalling Services tasks when required.
  • The resilience to work outdoors for extended periods in inclement weather.
  • A valid UK driver’s licence and the ability to operate tow vehicles.
  • Desirable: Prior military experience and/or experience maintaining aviation ground support equipment.

This role requires Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance, which involves verifying your identity, employment history, nationality, and criminal record to meet government security standards. In addition, depending on the nature of the role, you may need to obtain formal Security Clearance (such as CTC or SC), which includes more detailed background checks on employment, criminal record, and financial history to ensure suitability for working in secure environments. Please note that UK residency requirements may apply for certain levels of clearance. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire so we can identify and provide any support you may need to undertake the role effectively.
